Thoughts on the hEX S? Thinking of testing it against my ER-X

After posting my "thanks for all the help!" reply in the buying advice thread (and it still stands - thanks!) I was doing some digging around and learning and found that my ER-X wasn't making use of ipv6. I ended up staying up way too late into the morning configuring the router by following...

Planning a major overhaul, critique my purchase plan!

Major thanks, guys. I went with the ER-X and AP-AC-Pro (because of price). It has now been over a month and the only thing I've had to reboot has been the cable modem. This setup is rock solid. The whole house is covered and a good portion of the yards as well. My wife's laptop was still...

Replacing my AC68U media bridge; Athena-EX or EX8000?

Why a wireless bridge? Rental house: can't run patch, can't move modem, bad wiring makes powerline networking poor. I have solid wifi coverage in my office from the AP-AC-Pro; I also have two computers, my repair desk. and a NAS that need wired connections.

Replacing my AC68U media bridge; Athena-EX or EX8000?

My old Asus AC68U is finally ready to go to the great parts bin in the sky. It just couldn't handle life as a media hub for my office and the issues just kept mounting up regardless of firmware. My house network is powered by an Edgerouter X and a AP-AC-PRO. Super stable and fast! I need a new...

Planning a major overhaul, critique my purchase plan!

I'm done playing with Walmart-level stuff. I need rock-solid stability and I'm about to be able to put some real effort into the project even if my budget is minimal. Please let me know what you think of the setup below! * = new equipment Cable modem: Arris SB8200 Router: Ubiquiti Edgerouter X...

PC keeps dropping out, have to keep rebooting router to recover

Thanks for the help, all! I tossed the TPLink in the trash. They wouldn't RMA, so I chucked it. I unplugged the cable modem (including coax) and routers and left them powered down all night. The next morning I plugged the cable modem back in and let it power up completely. Factory reset and...

PC keeps dropping out, have to keep rebooting router to recover

Hello, all! This is a likely precursor to a second thread here shortly about replacing hardware. My office PC (PC1 in the topology below) cannot seem to stay connected to the internet. As of about 3 or 4 months ago, I will come into my office and find the yellow triangle of frustration on the...

Latest TP-Link Firmware Update Adds AV, New Alexa and IFTTT Skills

I so love having an abandoned v1 of the C3150. Are there any alterations to the v2 firmware that can get me the added features the v2 gets that v1 misses out on?

Network gone nuts, can't identify the issue

I got into my logs last night and found that my Wii has gone totally nuts. The router's logs are jam-packed with page after page of the Wii sending DHCP requests. Everything else on the network is pretty much quiet. I've taken the Wii offline to see if that will help out with the issue. I...

Network gone nuts, can't identify the issue

I have experience in changing modes on DSL modems, but I don't see any user-changeable options on my cable modem other than Factory Reset and Reboot. Checking the logs on the router, I've got pages of errors during each outage that mention DHCP error as part of each entry. I don't have that...

Network gone nuts, can't identify the issue

If this is the wrong forum, please move this to the correct one. I'm having issues with my home network and external connection. With no real rhyme or reason, the entire setup will go belly-up This can happen twice a day, or it can go days without being an issue. My setup is as follows...

Looking for AP for large open classroom

My trusty DLink DGL4500 has bit the dust; it's served me for many years as my home router and then as an access point for my school's network. I have a 2000 sq ft band room that I roam around quite a bit. I use my Galaxy Nexus and iPad 3 frequently in class while roaming around, and...

    Router dying?

I'm trying to solve some annoying network issues, and after consulting with some guys at DSLReports it looks like my router is the culprit rather than the DSL modem. If figuring this out means posting the DSL status, let me know and I'll take care of it. My current router is a Netgear...

DSL Modem & Router configuration question

I know this is probably a simple question if I'd just think hard enough about it, but is there an advantage to having my DSL login via my router with the modem as a bridge? I'm pondering some network changes over the next few months, and unless there's a compelling reason to log in via the...

    Mikrotik 750GL

I haven't seen much talk of MikroTik on here (might mean I'm not looking hard enough). I'm considering picking up a 750GL to mess around with and possibly replace my WNDR3700 for wired routing. Does anyone have any experience with these? Are they worth it for $60?
