... Fault is a little irrelevant here, smart butt. The only one who cares that your router/network is malfunctioning, is you.
The fact of the matter is that sometimes certain router firmwares don't work well with certain NIC drivers. I assure you, ASUS doesn't give a damn whether or not the...
Windows update is just about the worst way to keep drivers up-to-date possible.
And just because your driver works with other versions doesn't mean it's not a driver problem.
Firmware gets updated, sometimes old drivers don't work when newer ones do, and vice versa.
Their descriptions aren't very descriptive actually lol. Fortunately I already knew what the ACK suppression one was basically about, but there's actually a typo in the one I had to look up (regarding AMPDU) that could throw folks for a loop.
Fixes the 5GHz issues as in... the ones from the old SDK?
Or fixes the 5GHz issues as in... the ones from SDK6? Because Pixie Dust doesn't fix those.
I'd check the website, but it doesn't even work for me right now -_-
Edit: Nvm, Google caching wins again. Looks like they've switched to SDK6...
Rock solid connection for a week now on Pixie Dust.
It humors me to no end that the best firmware ASUS has come up with for the N66U happens to be the one that should be buggy that isn't fully coded for the hardware it's operating on. I'm sticking with SDK6 from here on out. It's nice to...
I've been on my 5GHz network for 24 hours straight now for the first time since I was using the .2xx drivers. Meaning of course that this is the first time I've been able to use 5GHz without crippling my Xbox 360.
So far so good over here! (Again, my NIC is an Atheros chip)
Edit:
48 hours in...
Just installed Pixie Dust.
Laptop connected to my 5GHz network faster than it ever has before (Atheros chip).
Will report back on stability in a couple of days.
For the first time in a long while, I was able to get my Atheros chip to hold a decent connection on 5GHz. Will monitor it for a while, but so far so good.
Wireless works fine for most people who know how to setup their network. That is of course if you have a router with fully functional firmware to begin with... something many of us don't really know about here as N66U owners -.-
Provided you have a decent connection, the argument for wired...
Nah, none of that for me. I'd just buy the add-on wireless adapter if I wanted to throw that kind of cash at the problem. Not to mention my router is nowhere near a power outlet (already has its own extension to reach its location), so I'd have to buy and run another giant ethernet cable across...
Merlin's "have your cake and eat it too" firmware is indeed probably best right now. Unless you have an Xbox 360 on your wireless network, in which case, don't bother.
