Builder wired Cat 5e, only 1 of 3 gets an IP

Ok, I got the Klein Scout Pro and ran a bunch of tests on the wires. Kitchen: Wires 1-2 reported Fail/Short/Open, 3/6 same thing. MBR: Oddly, same as Kitchen, same wires, same result. I ran a distance test on both wires and 1/2 and 3/6 all came back zero (both cables), the rest seemed...

Builder wired Cat 5e, only 1 of 3 gets an IP

In the MBR the jerk builder shorted the wire a ton, I barely had any to work with so that could entirely be the case there to the point that, but kitchen had plenty so I may just try to repunch that at the wall. At the switch I trimmed a lot at the box before I put the jacks on so I feel pretty...

Builder wired Cat 5e, only 1 of 3 gets an IP

That’s what my experience and gut was telling me, but thanks for double checking my work.

Builder wired Cat 5e, only 1 of 3 gets an IP

8 port switch 1 - In from Eero router: Good 2 - Doesn’t work (laptop) 3 - Doesn’t work (laptop) 4 - Connected to Office, works at switch and wall (laptop) 5-8 - Works with laptop I connected the Main BR and Kitchen cables to the working ports (on the switch) and still no IP at the wall. As I...

Builder wired Cat 5e, only 1 of 3 gets an IP

Absolutely. They ran Cat5e and only had two of the 8 wires connected on the RJ11 for land lines, they left the others just wrapped at each outlet. I trimmed up everything, added a new jack at the panel (and validated the crimp) and used keystone punch downs at each of the wall outlets and...

Builder wired Cat 5e, only 1 of 3 gets an IP

I purchased a house built ~5 years ago and the builder wired cat5e for land line phones and had RJ11 ports in 3 locations throughout the house. I replaced all of the RJ11 with RJ45 and re-crimped the media panel cables. After labeling everything (locations) I tested each line in each room and...

MoCA Setup from Media Panel in Garage

So here is the update: Panel is setup like I have the blue in my diagram above, with the BAMF splitter and I’m getting 600+ mbps on wireless iPad Pro in the Sun Room. I have only 1 additional MoCA end point adapter so I can’t confirm yet whether the additional coax ports still give the same...

MoCA Setup from Media Panel in Garage

Funny story. This larger panel I installed replaced a smaller one and the builder must have decided to install a doorbell (after the fact) and put a double-gang box below the media panel with a blank plate, so it was this weird hack involving multiple panels, wires, etc. Worse, the actual...

MoCA Setup from Media Panel in Garage

Check. That yellow one is one I had in the drawer for a while, the others I made sure to loop. Been there, done that.

MoCA Setup from Media Panel in Garage

Here is what my newly installed panel looks like. The coax are not installed yet (still waiting on splitter) and haven’t hooked up the MoCA (per my diagram), but the rest of the devices are all set.

MoCA Setup from Media Panel in Garage

Being new to MoCA configurations (but very knowledgable about IT), I think I understood about 90% of what you just said. Here is the splitter I purchased and it does state MoCA, but isn’t too specific on specs so I’m a bit skeptical that it meets what you describe above. Given the PitA I had...

MoCA Setup from Media Panel in Garage

Each device has 2x 1GB ethernet ports. My local ISP only offers 600D/10U Internet service for now, these suffice. If someone ever offered GB or better I’d have to re-evaluate.
