Which Asus routers are the most stable? (i.e. like the 68u used to be)

    AX58-U? That's $150 renewed on Amazon. AX56-U is $130.

Which Asus routers are the most stable? (i.e. like the 68u used to be)

Similar thought (it being overkill) - I looked at the AX68U - but it actually costs more ($200) than the AX68U ($170) I considered just another 68U ($117). It just feels odd to get something so old at this point? Worst case, it'd have to handle (due to guests): 1 TV, 1 tablet, and some...

Which Asus routers are the most stable? (i.e. like the 68u used to be)

Hi, I'm likely getting a router for my elderly mother. The old RT-68U was rock solid in my experience. Router speed isn't that important (her connection is only 100mbps). Range is not too demanding either (router is stuck in corner of a 1300+ square foot house). But stability is pretty...

    Why ASUS?

1.) Community support: There's Rmerlin putting out excellent firmware, another person putting out a *fork* of Merlin's excellent firmware for those who prefer it, a guide on how to increase power output and unlock channels on the AC68, a guide on how to turn T-Mobile's cheap router into a...

    TP-Link Archer C9 or Asus RT-AC68P

If you don't like the firmware: It uses the same exact firmware as the 68U/68R, so you could just flash Merlin or Merlin fork for the 68U/68R.

    Asus N66 vs AC68

I've had both the N66 and AC68, and prefer the AC68. Actually, the AC68 does N devices a bit better than the N66. There's an article on this website showing similar results with other AC routers paired with N adapters. In terms of range, unmodified, the N66U can go a bit further - but only...

Xmas is just around the corner....

I agree...but would exclude rmerlin from that list. I don't know of his firmwares ever causing problems, or changing the UI even - so I think it's totally fine for an average person, if they're up for the hassle of flashing it.

    Intel AC 7260 model difference.

A common problem for this adapter (with newer firmwares) is that after people put the computer to *sleep*, the adapter won't wake up on it's own. So, people have to manually disable/enable it. 1.) Obviously your problem is different - but maybe related? Have you tried booting - OK...

looking for cheap router with openwrt support

I had a TP-Link TL-WR841N - version 9, so it wasn't (at least then) OpenWRT compatible, but I'll add that for what it was, it was an excellent router. It never had any problems, and the 2.4 range was equal to my much more expensive, Asus RT-N66 (when running the latest N66 firmware). I would...

RT-AC68P (with upgraded CPU, NOT R or U)

So...it's exactly the same, except the CPU is rated/defaulted to 1Ghz vs. 800mhz?

    3 months later...AC87U or AC68U to replace N66U

OK, forgetting price...hm... I think...AC68U, because: People have worked out how to (easily) increase the output power: http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=19262. Via that, I was able to even achieve significantly higher Wireless-N download speeds in my less-than-ideal...

Advisable to disable SSH when not using it?

That's all: I occasionally (on my RT-AC68u) do something with Putty, and will enable SSH/allow SSH password login. When I'm finished, I'll disable it. Am I being prudent, or wasting time? Is it advisable to disable it each time, or just a pointless inconvenience?

    Question about 450mhz vs Gigabit

Yes, exactly. You mean 450 Mbps, and in that case they're referring to the maximum theoretical wireless speed.

    Too many options

At least with the n66u, is it running SDK6 firmware though? When I had an N66 it was amazing, until on SDK6 firmware, then it was about neck-and-neck with my $20 TP-Link for range.

Has anyone put Tomato on the RT-AC68U?

Since the above, Tomato has put out two more versions for the AC68U; how is Tomato on that router now?
