    Upgrade router for security reasons?

Thank you, everyone. You convinced me to stay with my AC56U.

    Upgrade router for security reasons?

Wow, thank you. I don't really need any of these extra features. I am fine with my old AC56U. I just don't know much about security and just don't want my router getting hacked, hence my question whether it makes sense to upgrade to a newer model.

    Upgrade router for security reasons?

My LAN clients are very secure, all visitors use a Guest network. I was thinking more in terms of security fixes in the firmware but I guess that's not a big issue then?

    Upgrade router for security reasons?

Hi all, I am looking for advise: I currently have an Asus RT-AC56U with the latest Merlin LTS Beta (August 2022) and it runs just fine. It covers my small apartment and is sufficient for my 250/50Mbit WAN connection. Still, I am wondering whether I should get a newer router for better...

    RT-AC56U - alternative firmware?

Thank you, that's helpful. I did just that and installed John's latest Dev build.

    RT-AC56U - alternative firmware?

Thanks to everyone! I guess I'm fine staying with John's stable fork then. (I have tried DD-WRT in the past but found it too complicated and not as stable as Tomato.)

    RT-AC56U - alternative firmware?

Thanks, that's useful to know. John's fork is very stable. I am really just interested in whether using a newer firmware (and supposedly newer drivers etc) will have a security benefit?

    RT-AC56U - alternative firmware?

Hi, Quick naive question: I use an older Asus RT-AC56U with the latest Asus Merlin LTS release. It works perfectly (thanks!). Considering the latest release is from December 2021, does it make sense security-wise to switch to another firmware like FreshTomato‑ARM (latest firmware from November...

    Upgrade Asus RT-N66U

It works okay now and I'll have a look once I get to visit them again. I will open a new post should there be new problems. Thank you!

    Upgrade Asus RT-N66U

Hi and thanks. 2.4GHz is either 20/40MHz auto or either of those --> now set to 20 and a fixed channel 5GHz is either 20/40/80MHz auto or either of those --> now set to 40 and a fixed channel There is also an option called "802.11ax / Wi-Fi 6 Modus" which is activated and an option called...

    Upgrade Asus RT-N66U

To be frank, I don't know and haven't heard about this distinction before. But they devices are a little older, say 3-6 years. The channel was and is set to 'automatic'. So it is possible that the newer router is actually 'worse' in that it gives me 'less' range? I did rely on the forum's...

    Upgrade Asus RT-N66U

Hi, Quick question: My parents mentioned that the new RT-AX58U has less coverage than their old RT-N66U which seems odd to me. Any ideas why this could be the case? The antennas are directed the same way. The RT-AX58U runs on the latest official firmware, the old RT-N66U ran on the latest...

    Upgrade Asus RT-N66U

Thanks all! I looked at the AC68U but then decided for the newer RT-AX58U, as it wasn't that much more expensive here. Either way, as mentioned, it will be an improvement. Have a good day everyone!

    Upgrade Asus RT-N66U

That is good to know, thank you. I am not an expert at this, as you've noticed. :) One more question: For the Asus RT-AX58U, do you recommend using the official firmware or the Merlin build? On my personal router I use the Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS because the official firmware is no longer...

    Upgrade Asus RT-N66U

Thank you. All I need is a stable router that has better WIFI range than the current Asus RT-N66U. I have an older Asus running Merlin myself and am happy with it, that's why I only searched for the Asus brand. Both above mentioned routers are the same price here. But reading from people...
