News January 15, 2025: The day DSLReports died

They should have used XenForo instead of whatever barebones software they're using.

I'm not interested in joining a forum populated by a bunch of assholes.

News January 15, 2025: The day DSLReports died

DSLReport's LHF forum was awful. I can't image HLF would be any better.

Is a 450VA UPS enough for a modem / router?

Some people will replace the battery once or twice, then replace the whole unit. Sort of a middle-of-the-road approach.

Is a 450VA UPS enough for a modem / router?

450 VA is certainly enough for your devices. But the real questions are the Amp-hour capacity of the battery and the efficiency of the inverter. You probably won't find much reliable information on the inverter efficiency, but you should be able to find the Amp-hour rating of the battery...

News January 15, 2025: The day DSLReports died

For the past few years, DSLReports has been like the spaceship on the TV show The Starlost: The crew is dead, the ship is running on autopilot and heading for a star. Maybe it finally crashed into the star.

    ASUS AX68U 5GHz Band Dropping / Disappearing

I just have an AX68U as a router, no mesh or anything. The 5 GHz used to crap out on a random basis. Sometimes within a few hours, sometimes in a week or two. Since I updated to beta 2 on the 19th, and now the released version, I haven't had any drops. Assuming ASUS implemented some sort of a...

    Release ASUS RT-AX68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.49479 (2022/06/23)

So right after I update to the Merlin release, now there's an ASUS release with even newer code. :(

Allow guest network devices to access each other

    Looks like this works. Thanks!

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.7 Beta is now available

I don't see any benefit for turning on private addresses for use on your own LAN. You're not tracking via MAC ID and you know what phone it is, so there's no need for privacy.

Allow guest network devices to access each other

And they still will not be able to access the main network?

Allow guest network devices to access each other

I have an RT-AX68U running 386.7_beta2. I have a main network with wired and wireless devices. I also have guest network 1 setup (with separate 2.4 and 5.0 SSIDs). I have Access Intranet set to disable. I see that the guest network devices run their own subnets. I use the guest network for...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.7 Beta is now available

It's working on my RT-AX68U. I did notice there was a delay in seeing the new IP address in the Client List on the main Network Map page. It took maybe minute for it to be updated.

    RT-N66U trouble with newer firmware

Due to complaints of other family members about slow speeds and dropped connections, I went back to the old sdk5 firmware. Ugh. More pain. Restoring the old config file didn't work (no errors, it just didn't change anything), so I had to reconfigure everything by hand again. So between that...
