Beta Beta Firmware ASUS RT-AC86U - Version 9.0.0.4.386.41994

I'm not really sure what that's supposed to imply. That Asus is blocking outbound DNS from everything but the router itself on purpose?

    Beta RT-AX88U 9.0.0.4.386.41994

From my testing there is clearly something else going wrong with DNS lookups than this upstream DNS configuration.

Beta Beta Firmware ASUS RT-AC86U - Version 9.0.0.4.386.41994

I've been running my configuration like this for 6 years across my AC68U and now AC86U and countless firmware updates with PiHoles and before that a Windows Domain DNS server with 0 issues for DNS. There's clearly something wrong with the way this update is handling allowing outbound DNS calls...

    Beta RT-AX88U 9.0.0.4.386.41994

I'm having the same issue on an AC86U as well. I have dual PiHoles inside my network and both fail to make outbound DNS calls after updating to the beta, everything just came to a complete stop since they couldn't resolve any DNS. I had to shift to my ISP for DNS on the router itself and DHCP...

Beta Beta Firmware ASUS RT-AC86U - Version 9.0.0.4.386.41994

I powered off the AC86U and my router and repowered, the system was still blocking DNS from my PiHoles going outbound. I had to set the AC86U to use my ISP's DNS instead of my PiHoles to begin getting DNS again inside my network.

Beta Beta Firmware ASUS RT-AC86U - Version 9.0.0.4.386.41994

I just updated my AC86U and all my DNS no longer works. I use two PiHoles for DNS for the router itself and DHCP configuration for everything in my network. The AC86U now is failing DNS lookups because my PiHoles are failing lookups.

    Release ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.40558 (05-Nov-2020)

FYI, a heads up if you start noticing new IP space on your guest networks and/or you have DHCP static leases that stop working. We discovered this when 386 dropped for the RT-AC86U recently. ASUSWRT 386 new guest network IP space and DHCP static IPs

    Release Asus AC86U New Firmware - 3.0.0.4.386_40451-g30f1b6c

I broke out a new thread for the guest network IP space change and loss of DCHP static leases on Guest Network 1 since I saw people with RT-AC68U devices also having the same issue since they just got 386 firmware...

ASUSWRT 386 new guest network IP space and DHCP static IPs

We were talking about this in the RT-AC86U 386 firmware but saw people with RT-AC68U devices starting to have the same issue and wanted to pop it out into it's own thread. There is a new behavior with the 386 firmware that Guest Network 1 uses a different IP space from what you have defined on...

    Release Asus AC86U New Firmware - 3.0.0.4.386_40451-g30f1b6c

You might want to try moving items to Guest Network 2 or 3. So I thought I had tested the 2nd Guest Network but I guess I hadn't. The 2nd guest network is on the main IP space, seriously what gives? I went checking the settings again and the only thing I noticed that was different is that the...

RT-AC86u upgrade to 3.0.0.4.386 re-IPd my Guest Networks

So I thought I had tested the 2nd Guest Network but I guess I hadn't. The 2nd guest network is on the main IP space, seriously what gives? I went checking the settings again and the only thing I noticed that was different is that the 1st guest network has a "Sync to AiMesh Node" option which...

    Release Asus AC86U New Firmware - 3.0.0.4.386_40451-g30f1b6c

Just an FYI the new 386 firmware guest networks now use their own Class C IP spaces. Where previous behavior was everything in say 192.168.1 you now have; Main IP space 192.168.1 GN1 192.168.101 GN2 192.168.102 GN3 192.168.103 I like this new change BUT you can no longer assign DHCP static...

RT-AC86u upgrade to 3.0.0.4.386 re-IPd my Guest Networks

Because one guest network is IoT devices and I want them to always exist in the same location for firewall rules and DNS lookups. You can set the static lease in the DHCP menu I mentioned above, it's been the primary place for Asus devices for over a decade before they added the direct device...

RT-AC86u upgrade to 3.0.0.4.386 re-IPd my Guest Networks

Like bbunge said the interface won't let me telling me the IP is invalid even though it pre-populated the IP address field with the current IP of the device... Well this completely breaks all of my static assignments and DNS entries for them and any firewall allowances I had. Frustrating to...

RT-AC86u upgrade to 3.0.0.4.386 re-IPd my Guest Networks

I found it very odd that it wasn't doing this then started. Making a change to the DHCP area must have cleared something out that was preventing it from doing it before. I noticed I have .101 and .102 and checked the .101 is Guest Network 1 and .102 is Guest Network 2. I'll test making a...
