IBM disk sheild vs NAS build

The issue is I am trying to stay away from having large storage inside my computer case. Trying to make it external. Seagate 2TB LP drives give me the performance I need out of bulk storage. Trying to build an external solution that can match that.

IBM disk sheild vs NAS build

Trying to decide between buying a 12 bay IBM disk shelf from a buddy and getting a raid card with external sas or building a custom nas box with a mITX board and connecting it to my computer via 10gb cx4 nic utilizing an iSCSI lun. Disk shelf will be $500 plus I have to find some cheap...

    Help networking my new home

Just wanted to come update the status of my shananigans for anyone coming across this in the future. I ordered a second RT-N66U now that they are under $150. Moved one up to the main floor hardwired to the router downstairs. Both upgraded to the latest shibby tomatousb firmware. Router...

Asuswrt-Merlin - custom build of the Asus RT-N66U firmware

As a fan of the stock Asus firmware I would be interested in seeing additional NAT opttions added. Having no NAT loopback is my biggest gripe about the Asus firmware so far.

    Help networking my new home

With the RT-N66U in the basement I get anywhere from the same to 10dbi better signal throughout the house for 2.4GHz. Moved it up to the main floor with my 100 ft cable going up the stairs and my computers upstairs had full signal (in the windows thing) and my phone with wifi analyzer showed...

Which router? Netgear WNDR4500 vs Asus RT-N66U vs Linksys EA4500 vs E4200V2

I noticed one error in that chart above. The Asus RT-N66U has two USB ports, not one. I just got my RT-N66U today and all I can say is I am very impressed with it. I feel I actually got what I paid for with this product.

    Help networking my new home

That sounds like an interesting home! It is an older home. Built 1912 (century old!) ~1280sq ft on the two floors plus the basement. There is cast iron and copper pipe throughout. Duct work above the server room for HVAC. Also a suspended ceiling in the basement. After last nights...

    Help networking my new home

Server room is in the basement. Which is where I keep the modem/router/switch (basement is hardwired with cat6). Thus the router stays in that room. AP on the other hand can move. I already have a huge roll of cat6 sitting here and 100's of RJ45 mod plugs. No concerns there. Only thing Cat6a...

    Help networking my new home

Bought my first house! yay! But it's a two storey and my DGL-4500 doesn't reach the top floor very well (it is in the basement). I have tried buy several repeaters (DAP-1360 and the latest was netgear 3000RP). However I have nothing but problems with devices dropping connections. IE they have...
