Tutorial How to setup a VPN Server with Asus routers 380.68 updated 08.24

No worries. My bad for not being clear from the start. I just checked Merlin, and the 56U is not on the list. I could try Padavan bits or just get a new router. Cheers.

Tutorial How to setup a VPN Server with Asus routers 380.68 updated 08.24

It's an RT-N56U. No OpenVPN. My VPN screen title is "VPN Server - PPTP" 3.0.0.4.380_7378-g7a25649

Tutorial How to setup a VPN Server with Asus routers 380.68 updated 08.24

Alas, I don't see an "export" feature on the VPN page. Unless I'm missing something, it appears that I need a newer router to get the OpenVPN features. Thanks.

Tutorial How to setup a VPN Server with Asus routers 380.68 updated 08.24

Trying to get connected to my 56U. Of course, I'm stuck with PPTP for now. I'll upgrade the router at some point. I set up the VPN server, then tried to connect with my Android phone, using the built-in VPN capability. I've tried dozens of configurations and settings, but I always get this...

    RT-N56U, iPad, and AiCloud 2.0

got it to work I didn't have the AiCloud SW installed on the router. I was able to download a photo to my iPad, but I decided to uninstall the app due to security concerns. I was hoping the downloads would happen in my local network, but that's not how the app works.

    RT-N56U, iPad, and AiCloud 2.0

Just loaded 2.0 on my iPad. I use AiCloud strictly to access LAN networked drives - nothing remote. The app seems to work fine, but consistently crashes when I try to download a file to my iPad. I am using the latest published firmware on my router, and I rebooted it just for kicks. Just...

How do I share a USB Hard Drive as a Network Drive ?

Thanks again, Colin. I'll give that a try. I did notice that the router does not allow me to add a user that does not have a password. I currently do not use one to login to my laptop, so I need to trade that off with just turning on the guest feature.

How do I share a USB Hard Drive as a Network Drive ?

what is "admin" and how did it get there? I have my HDD working fine on my 56U, with "allow guest login" enabled. I can even mount it as a network drive, in addition to seeing it in my "network" folder. I don't understand where the "admin" owner comes from. I'd like to own the disk, so...

    New Asus firmware version: 3.0.0.4.360

Gracias! BTW - I'm essentially "vanilla" too, although I do have a printer connected to the router. Turns out the Asus printer SW is quite buggy and I had frequent BSODs until I re-installed the printer using Asus' alternate methodology. I don't have any problems with .334, so perhaps I...

    New Asus firmware version: 3.0.0.4.360

RogerSC, I've been reluctant to move past .334 firmware. However, you are using .342, so I'm wondering if it's worth it for me to move to that. It's no longer posted on Asus' web site, so I have no idea what it added/fixed, etc. Should I move up? If so, do you know where I can find the...

    ASUS RT-N56U beta firmware

Shouldn't have to be this hard Flash, save, telnet, Nvram, boot, config. Remind me again...this a consumer-oriented product, yes? I'm above average technically, but I find all this to be intimidating and a waste of my time. If this is what has to done to upgrade to new versions, Asus...

    RT-N56U rebooting by itself

8 days and counting for me. All log messages are DHCP-related. The only time my unit reboots is when I initiate it or we lose power.

    ASUS RT-N56U beta firmware

334 seems ok I must admit that I'm not a heavy "feature" user like some of you folks, but 334 seems ok to me. I'm running 2.4 and 5 devices, along with a USB printer and drive. No other fancy stuff! So far, so good.
