Tenda MW6 Nova Whole Home Mesh WiFi System Reviewed

Hey Tim ... taking a reprieve from my orbi system and trying the Tenda Nova ... so far, so good. Very impressed for the mesh performance at $139/set ... thank you for testing it out and bringing it to my attention. The Maintenance window provides a setting where you can enable the system to...

    WD Announces New MyCloud NASes

Just installed the My Cloud Home 4TB ... very nice. Plex server is now included and works great ... no more requirement to open up the MacBook and open Plex to function as the server. Video files & Plex are all on the same NAS ... works sweet!

Netgear Orbi suffering flaky WiFi for ~4 months now; new FW update coming

Same here ... no disconnects since I've had orbi with close to 30 devices. Multiple Apple iPads, iPhones, Macbooks, Chromebooks, Streaming devices ... rock solid far reaching. It simply works.

Linksys Announces Velop Mesh Wi-Fi System

A bit strange as this does not mirror Tim's results ... obviously a different selection method. http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/linksys-velop-gets-a-clean-sweep-of-pc-mag-awards-for-new-mesh-networking-wi-fi-solution-300410936.html

Orbi router and satellite use the same channels

Interesting post on r/orbi where a user modified his orbi to provide separate SSID's ... HOWTO: Configure different SSIDs for 2.4 and 5Ghz networks https://www.reddit.com/r/orbi/comments/5svxmy/howto_configure_different_ssids_for_24_and_5ghz/?st=IYYRQT9Y&sh=36e50985

New Buffalo LinkStation LS520DN NAS Targets Connected Home

Newbie when it comes to NAS. But wouldn't this be a good choice for storing iTunes media for streaming to an Apple TV? MacBook storage is small.

Linksys Announces Velop Mesh Wi-Fi System

For sure, the original intro about the product on SNB at CES timing will then need to be revised as even it indicates dedicated 5 GHZ for backhaul.

Linksys Announces Velop Mesh Wi-Fi System

Agree regarding orbi. In terms of mesh & extended coverage, as I scan reddit's sites for eero, google wifi, etc., most of the home sizes do not really appear to need the coverage that mesh extends. Plus there is something to be said of simplicity in providing solid coverage with 1 orbi router...

Linksys Announces Velop Mesh Wi-Fi System

Hub & spoke, star ... whatever you call it in lieu of mesh, orbi rocks. I decided to keep my orbi's (2 sats) and am loving it. Download speeds are routinely rock solid exceeding my plan with the cable company. I tried the 3 velop set-up as well due to the CES hype, but ended up keeping orbi...

    Mesh Wi-Fi Mashup

Agree ... just thinking that perhaps it would make more sense on my end to "cheap" mesh it for strong wi-fi throughout supplemented by a couple of switches. Actually, now the ethernet from the orbi router feeds a Netgear 16 gigabit unmanaged switch in my basement which runs to various rooms in...

    Mesh Wi-Fi Mashup

Thanks ... OZ = Australia? Cool. Actually have orbi but felt I might get better performance via hard wired "cheaper" mesh such as Google WiFi.

    Mesh Wi-Fi Mashup

I have a UPS already to the modem, primary mesh node & main wifi switch. I've noticed in the past that if power goes down and the router or main node reboots prior to the modem that feeds it, then the entire network gets mucked up. By keeping those powered up via UPS, then the other nodes can...

    Mesh Wi-Fi Mashup

By the way ... thanks for your responses to this newbie. Goal is 2 fold ... strongest wireless wifi for non-Ethernet hard wired devices as well as best opportunity for wired devices. That's why I thought it best to take the distributed Ethernet from the main switch directly to a mesh node and...
