Got the new Internet Provider Modem installed today by them. Connected new RT-AX86U and it updated to latest Asus FW, got system up and running with everything connected and appearing to be running good. Network stable. Uploaded to latest Asuswrt-Merlin FW 386.7_2. Have not done a factory...
There will be no hesitation on my part to use your FW. I consider it an upgrade regardless of the version number, I have not run an Asus FW on any of my Asus routers except for when they were new in many years. I will have 3 routers on your FW when I switch the new one over once I get it up...
Thanks for the recommendations and advice. Router should be here today. Plan to install and leave Asus FW installed until I get everything up and running. Then will update to Merlin FW.
Will read the links suggested.
Have a new RT-AX86U on the way to replace a RT-AC86U that a very close lightening strike knocked out the WAN port. The lightening also took out the port on the Internet Provider Modem that I had the router connected to.
Is there anything I need to be aware of or do before I upgrade the FW to...
OK, I might have exaggerated a little but of the three that failed one lasted about a week, the other 2 had one of the bands die within two days, and one had a dead band out of the box. I tried every remedy described I could fine and could not get them to work properly. Don't get me wrong I...
Fixed it - Yes, got in a hurry and transposed numbers, I also have had 2 of the 68U's and have had no problem. My current 86U is approaching 2 trouble free years. If I could get another one like it I would not hesitate to buy another.
There were major issues with the AC86U despite what some say, I have one that I bought in September 2018 that has been trouble free. However in July 2019 I purchased and returned 3 that were defective when I received them, either the 2.4 or 5 Ghz band would not work. The latest production...
No issue after it is up and running, I left mine a 168.50.1 also. Biggest problem was not knowing it was this address at the beginning. Once setup no real difference.
I am one of those reviewers and I can tell the difference between a router and a toaster. I went through 3 of their "Used Like New" routers from Amazon before I gave up, On 2 of those 3 routers the 2.4 band was dead when I received them, would not light up on front and could not change channel...
I agree with this. The RT-AC86U I bought in September 2018 has been rock solid, I went through 3 in July 2019 before I gave up. The first lasted 1 week before the 2.4Ghz quit working, on the next 2 the 2.4 band was Dead On Arrival, the light on the front wouldn't even light. I tried...
My J61AHN has been trouble free since September 2018. Hope I don't jinx it by posting this. Wish I had recorded the SN of the 3 I purchased and returned to Amazon.
Very common problem https://www.snbforums.com/threads/major-issues-w-rt-ac86u.56342/
I also have bought and returned 3 AC86's recently from Amazon for problems with the 2.4 and 5 band. They were used very good and were in very good physical condition, but on 2 of them the 2.4 band was dead on...
I recently took a gamble on an Amazon Used Very Good RT-AC86. It lasted less then a week before the 5Ghz radio died completely and then went into a endless reboot on power off/on. The next 2 replacements had the 2.4 Ghz radio dead out of the box, the light on the front was not on on initial...
