    RT-N66U trouble with newer firmware

THIS^... I re-structered my home network after setting up a pfsense firewall/router and put my N66R in AP mode. The old SDK5 firmware made a huge difference for me in wireless performance. Never changing it from that. ***DISCLAIMER*** As RMerlin has stated many times, using old firmware with...

    RT-AC87U Very Strange Problem-Urgent

Very uncommon but not out of the question until eliminated. I'm covering the thermal angle in case there is an issue with overheating and shutdown of the radios by a protection circuit. Another quick test would be to put a fan next to the router and have it force air across the router to see if...

When the New Firmware for AC87U

Official Asus firmware right now is 3.0.0.4.378.9460, dated 12/29/2015. That is pretty fresh considering it is OEM. Asus used to have much longer periods between releases. Like RMerlin said, that is very good compared to other firmware update/upgrade cycles. Complain to Asus if you feel there...

    RT-AC87U Very Strange Problem-Urgent

Sounds like a hardware problem with both Wifi radios, could be heat related. Try running with the 5GHz radio disabled in the firmware to see if that makes a difference.

Stumped by second 5GHz signal from RT-AC66U...

It is a chromecast device according to these posts - http://afmug.com/pipermail/af/2015-February/014242.html, http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2452358, https://github.com/BishopFox/rickmote/issues/4. Specifically, it is also broadcasting a guest connection using the phantom MAC.

RT-N66U Merlin Download QoS and BufferBloat

http://www.snbforums.com/threads/dslreports-speed-test-now-measuring-buffer-bloat.24562/ It seems that the download side needs to be throttled to 60% or lower to get bufferbloat under control. This figure is for the user-defined settings, not the overall download number from the first page...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Flashed the new beta and so far everything is running fine. Will update if anything changes. Thanks John and Merry Xmas!

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Same here - just noticed last night that I only get the MAC ID of the device, no MAC lookup is triggered.

Asuswrt feature request for future FW releases thread

I would pay cash for DNSCRYPT to be integrated into the firmware and accessible from the UI ala TomatoUSB (RAF or Shibby). I know it can be done through entware as an add-on but rather than side-loading it I would love to see this as part of the firmware's features. I, like some people, don't...

DSLReports Speed Test Now Measuring Buffer Bloat

To my knowledge, the RT-N66x does not have Adaptive QoS but only traditional.

DSLReports Speed Test Now Measuring Buffer Bloat

For anyone following this thread with the RT-N66x and John's fork - I had a heck of a time getting this dialed in. Before any additional changes and QoS already on, I got Bufferbloat:C and Quality:A. The best I could get after A LOT of tweaking and retesting was Bufferbloat:A and Quality:B. I'm...

My deepest condolences to John and his family through this difficult time. The forums and users will hold until you get back. Your work and Merlin's are always much appreciated. Sincerely,

    Sporadic Wireless Connections?

Looks like the AC66U uses the same exact chassis/shell as the N66U which imho has a piss poor design when it comes to thermal/heat management. Whoever decided at Asus that vent holes were not needed on the top cover of a BLACK housing with a passive, seriously inadequate bridged heatsink on the...
