ASUS RT-N66U new firmware version 178

I'm currently running the latest merlin build (thanks for your efforts RMerlin !) and my 66u is nice and stable. I am looking at purchasing a VPN solution and I'm wondering if anyone is aware of a VPN solution that will actually run on the RT-66U. I have found some that will work with DD-WRT...

    Asus RT-N56U Reviewed

What are the WAN to LAN, LAN to WAN and LAN to LAN (all wired) speeds of the router with the Padawan firmware, does anybody know ? I'm looking at either 56U or 66u but I don't really care about the wireless as the router will sit in a cupboard and I have Engenius EAP9500 on each floor. I have...

Shooping for a fairly basic home router

Cheers. DD-WRT or Tomato is something I want to look at. DD-WRT boys are actually looking at porting DD-WRT to the EnGenius 9850 so maybe that may end up being the best solution for me long term and I'll keep the DIR-655 in place for now.

Shooping for a fairly basic home router

Gigabit WAN is what I am after. I just pulled the old DIR-655 out of the cupboard and plugged it in. HW Rev A3 and Firmware 1.34NA I have 23 DHCP Resverations now. I added 2 more just to see what would happen and no issue so far.

Shooping for a fairly basic home router

Yes, I'm aware of that. It's why I said I needed Gigabit WAN. I can say it a 4th time if you'd like. No, they not common. I didn't even think to check that when I bought the EnGenius because every router I've owned over the last 5 years didn't have such a low limitation. But, the VPN and...

Shooping for a fairly basic home router

It doesn't. Once you have 10, you tru and reserve another and it tells you the table is full. VPN is 2 check boxes. Selected or not. I've tried all combos with no luck. Google reveals a few people with the same issue, but no answers. I'll be wired up to FTTH in a couple of months. Not...

Shooping for a fairly basic home router

I'm looking for a router for home. Nothing too fancy I just need a decent number of connections and gigabit WAN. I have the EnGenius 9850 but it seems I can't VPN out. Others have reported this problem and I haven't seen a fix yet. I don't need wireless so I have posted here but it...

    EnGenius 9850 Firmware & Thoughts

I tend to group my devices in ranges. i.e. Dektop PCs 100-109 Laptops 110-119 Mobile Phones 120-129 NAS devices & Priters 130-139 Home AV Equipment 140-149 etc etc Going static for all of them would be a pain but we'll see what happens. My 9550 are Static LAN IPs though.

    EnGenius 9850 Firmware & Thoughts

OK, I'll keep away from them. I installed the update and it fixed quite a few issues I had (WAN get dropping out). It's now stable and seeing I don't use it's wireless capabilities (I have 9550s scattered around the house) I'm not fussed about the extra channels. Really would prefer the...

    EnGenius 9850 Firmware & Thoughts

Finally found a store selling the 9850 yesterday so I grabbed one and set it up. First question, the 2.0 Firmware is only available on the US site. Other than disabling the ability to use Channel 12 & 13, is there anything else that would prevent me from installing it on a SE Asia based...

    great, thanks for that.

    Multi APs in a house

OK, cheers. The APs will be on different floors. Any video streaming will be over wire. I would prefer 1 channel so as to not annoy the neighbours too much. I guess I can achieve what I want, but I'll have some things to test and play with once they are installed to find the best setup.

    Multi APs in a house

Don't use the ones above ? Do you have any other advice other than "don't" use ? I have 2 DIR-655s at the moment, an A2 and an A4. Not sure how long I will keep either as at the new place all I need is a non-wireless router where the internet comes in, then an 8 to 10 port switch. The...

    Multi APs in a house

Thanks StoneCat, pretty much answers everything. Quick question on non-overlapping channels. How far apart should the channels be ? Just wondering what other channels might be in use around the house so would 1 - 4 - 7 be far enough apart ? Is there a rule ?

    Multi APs in a house

I'm in the midst of renovating a new house and in my quest for keeping the tech at a high WAF, I bought 3 Engenius EAP9550 APs (smoke detector looking access point/repeater/WDS). I can get power and a LAN cable to each Unit. Ideally I'd like to set them up with the same SSID / Security which...
