I have a router in the basement and 2x AP:s, one on each floor. I have set different channels on all three of them. Should I have same channel for the 2x AP:s while having the router itself on a different channel?

I finally ditched the AiMesh and made the "Nodes" to true AP. Set the same SSID for everything and different channels for each one. Works much better. I get much better signal and the roaming is more or less seamless. And parental controls work. Clients are still a bit sticky, so either adjust...

I'll try to work something out. I have read that running the nodes in AP mode is much better then using them in mesh, but when using them in mesh i have can use AiProtect and parental controls. Will I loose that when running nodes in AP?

Ok...so this may be why i'm having weird issues with it. Which unmanaged switch is preferable then? Or is a managed switch the way to go? Right now i'm using a Netgear Prosafe 8

So i've had some time with the xt8:s now and everything ain't fine and dandy, just as expected. But I have this weird thing going on that even a complete factory reset didn't help. My node seems to go offline and then back online by itself. Looking both in the Asus app and the web gui it says...

Just tried instant guard. Very easy setup, works albeit a bit slow. But it does what i want it to do. Will try wireguard when i get the time. When setting up the wireguard Server on the XT8 it will be running in the background all the time. Will this somehow reduce the performance of my router?

Is instant guard preferable over wireguard in my case. Or is it just different tools that do the same thing

Ok. I just chatted with my ISP, and they fixed it. I will have to restart my router in 15min or so they said. Free of charge. Funny thing, i had a orbi mesh previous to the xt8 and that I could reach from outside with the orbi app. And I dont remember having a public ip then. Anyhow...should I...

Ah. So going the enable remote access through WAN route is a severe security risk then? As that would be the only option if i dont pay up extra for public ip?

It's connected to a fiber modem. And I believe i have to pay extra for a public ip, if i am not mistaken

Old post. But yeah i also have weird roaming issues with xt8. Have read just about every thread and followed every guideline, all leading to a dead end. In the majority of threads it is recommended not to use smart connect at all.

Did some more testing. So when get in from outside my phone connects to whatever node/router and phy down is like about 17Mbps on the 5ghz and when i turn of the wifi on the phone and back on again I get 200-300Mbps on 5ghz in that same node standing in the same spot.
