Thanks for the review Colin, this morning while the wife was busy I figured I could trash the router and get it running again before she sat down to the news.
I ssh'd in and found what I thought was the smb.conf file in the etc directory. I added the lines suggested by the OpenVPN gang;
hosts...
By the way FTPS has problems. It can connect and get the password correct but has issues connecting to the server. FTP TLS is ok with the VPN.
I can SSH from the Windows Sub for Linux with the VPN up.
Ok, another pass at this. The reason I am going through this "exercise" is to apply a VPN to our home network. We have several ipcams and I am no longer willing to port forward devices or enable router remote administration. I also want to remove our R6400 Netgear which does not support OpenVPN...
Well it would have been for me if it all worked ;) But I get the drift of your append. This all adds up to me not expecting them to ship a fix for what would seem to be somewhat obvious omission.
I apologize. I read the list of supported devices and knew it was not supported. I should have said that at the outset.
I was hoping someone knew what router was used at the base for the EBG's firmware. Perhaps applying that router's merlin firmware might be an option.
It either goes back to...
🤣 I watched until a bit after half time thinking GB was going to roll the Bears over. They could not do much of anything right up to that point. I woke up to find out the Bears came back!
Thank you for your contributions!
OpenVPN dox appear to offer up a solution (I suppose) however I have no idea if it would work. The smb.conf file is built at boot time so any patch would have to be applied after every boot. Probably too complicated for what benefit would be achieved.
I knew going into the Asuswrt fora it did...
Best I can tell the EBG15 is using some wireless router firmware since it is a wired router but still has some code that supports wireless.
So does Asuswrt have a level / version for this router?
