slow wireless speeds and other transfer issues

awesome! That's exactly what I wanted to know. Not usually sure if something is one or two streams based on the laptop I'm looking at, but maybe if I research the wireless card for each one I can find that information.

slow wireless speeds and other transfer issues

Thanks for the reply. I read through the post you recommended, but I still don't know if I fully understand. You're saying that the 300Mbps is not for data but other bits needed for the connection, so you'll never get anything close to that. And you recommend to go down to 20Mhz, but then I only...

slow wireless speeds and other transfer issues

ok, thanks for the feedback. I guess that's a little disappointing that 8MBps is a good speed for wireless N at that distance. So, I guess that if I had 2 wireless N laptops (upgraded), I could possibly expect to see transfer rates of around 4-5MBps. Still not great, but at least it's better...

slow wireless speeds and other transfer issues

Thanks for the reply. I suspected as such with the 20Mhz only, but wasn't 100% sure on the facts behind that concept. I'm referring to Bytes when I write MB and bits when I write Mb. I used the correct terminology, so the numbers that I wrote reflect the actual speeds that I was getting in...

slow wireless speeds and other transfer issues

Oh, another issue is that when I switched to auto 20/40MHz in the router, I cannot choose the channel and my connections for the draftN and G laptop are dropping every once in awhile. When I set it to 20MHz only and select a low channel like 3 that no one else is using and my microwave doesn't...

slow wireless speeds and other transfer issues

So here’s my issue: I’d like to get a NAS and connect it to my router and be able to access it from two laptop wireless N for backups and data access. I’d prefer decent speeds, but the goal is to not have to run CAT5E wires in the house, so I’m sure I’ll sacrifice some speed for that luxury...

trying to find a NAS...any suggestions welcome

Thanks for the info. I was planning to do RAID 1, but hadn't considered a drive corruption. I'm used to working with RAID 5 at work where you have parity bits, and I never saw an issue with any data loss. I was planning to use a 3rd parts cloud storage for photos since that's the biggest...

synology 3rd party cloud computing options

I want to buy the DS211J, but I'm wondering if it has any support for cloud drives besides Amazon S3? I'd like to have about 20-50GB cloud storage that I could have the synology server auto backup my pictures and other important documents to on a daily or weekly basis. ANyone have any...

    DS211J wireless

I'm having trouble finding good information on wireless n read/write tests and capabilities with the DS211J. I guess most people using NAS have wired house, but i haven't wanted to install CATV in my walls and all of my devices are wireless, so I haven't seen the need. I'm interested to hear if...

trying to find a NAS...any suggestions welcome

I'm trying to get a NAS at a reasonable price that will allow for the following functions: 1) Allow my three computers to access files and backup 2) Allow user restrictions by computer/username to folders (my files private, wife files private) 3) Allow good automated backup 4) Good access...
