    Yes, I did it from scratch, so that was not the problem. The 2.4 GHz radio would work if I let the router cool down for several hours, but would fail soon after powering it up again, and if I didn't let it rest unplugged, it would not work when plugged in again.

    I think I was conflating two different issues. The wired NVR was disconnecting for some reason. I fixed with a switch.     I'm pretty sure it's just a dead 2.4 GHz radio, and maybe this is affecting the other functions as well. I will return it and get a new one since I just bought it. Not worth any more hassle.

    No, I don't hide SSID. I was able to boot the router this morning and all is okay, though it's been only a few minutes. I am going to leave it and not change any settings and see how long it is stable.
