News FragAttacks - implications in reality?

Hi there, with my limited understanding, it looks like a spectre / meltdown like security issue has hit wifi in general https://www.fragattacks.com/ It is not very soothing that it can be onyl exploited within physical reach, since this in my opinion lies wihtin the nature of wifi...

Asus AP mode "light" possible? (use behind Sophos Firewall)

Emphasis on "if" ;-) I know that buying a Sophos AP would solve the problem, but I am in doubt, it has the same coverage like the 88u - I need this for my various musiccast speakers. I am using xg 18. I am really fed up now with the sophos ...

Asus AP mode "light" possible? (use behind Sophos Firewall)

I have it virtualized on Hyper V - I managed to get it working, however the DHCP on the Sophos is a complete mess. Once I created a bridge between physical and virtual NICS to serve them all together, the Asus Router didn't want to connect any longer via DHCP, nor static IP. So yes in theory its...

Asus AP mode "light" possible? (use behind Sophos Firewall)

So I disabled NAT, enabled the route in the test router (not yet Sophos) , and so far it works. Guest network separated. Clients from LAN1 can access LAN2 (Asus) - you do have to forward the ports though. Thanks a lot :-) Last question: Do you know by chance, how to unify DHCP for both networks...

Asus AP mode "light" possible? (use behind Sophos Firewall)

Yes - and I was wondering if and if yes, how to "open" the router to the firewall, so the firewall can identify individual users, as far as I understand disabling DHCP doesnt really help, because I would have to configure the clients individually? In a nutshell : Can I configure the Asus...

Asus AP mode "light" possible? (use behind Sophos Firewall)

Hi there, I recently setup a Sophos XG and of course it is not really sufficient, if the is only one user (my ASUS AC88U). So I activated AP mode, which worked great until I realized that the guest network separation does not work here. Also bandwith limitations do not work. So the question is...

ASUSWRT 386 new guest network IP space and DHCP static IPs

I dont know, however then it has been a design flaw in my view... I mean I understand the reasoning, however a quick warnign would no tharm. Anybody ideas how to build this manually in router mode? Like deactivating firewall, dhcp, enable acces from WAN... ?

ASUSWRT 386 new guest network IP space and DHCP static IPs

Interesting thread - I have put my AC88U to AP-mode, and the guest networks are compeltely useless now. I have 2,4 1&2 activated. Not only that bandwith limitations do not work anylonger, no, you can easily access devices in the other networks. From guest and to guest. So for me AP mode and...

Limit bandwith guest network AC88U - in AP mode

Hello there, I have set up a Sophos XG FW and put the AC88U in AP mode, unfortunately guest network bandwith limitations do not work any longer. I have to confess I am currently on stock Asus firmware 8sed Merlin in the past, unfortunately in march there were stability issues, my gf wouldnt...

General Question regarding DNS Setting in WAN and LAN

General Question regarding DNS Setting in WAN and LAN

Thanks a lot. But both do the same right? Leaving both empty leaves me with the DNS from the ISP (or in my case modem / router combo before the 88U) In case they deviate from each other LAN supersedes WAN? And in general when trying different DNS seervices (pihole, adguard) I better change it in...

General Question regarding DNS Setting in WAN and LAN

Hi there, when changing the DNS settings of my Asus RT AC88U pointing to my PiHole I stumpled uppon two different setting. 1. WAN DNS which updates really quickly and second LAN DNS in the DHCP settings, which seems to be more of depper change, at least the processing of the changes takes...
