There's nothing wrong with using the same Wi-Fi credentials as the Asus, as it's a very common thing to do (router + additional AP's).

One last thing you could try would be a replacement power supply. It's possible the router itself might be fine, but the power supply could be too weak/unstable to allow the router to start up. A compatible replacement should cost around £15 on Amazon/eBay/etc.
On both Firefox and Chrome, an up/down flick inside the "Latest Reviews" prison always scrolls up, regardless of the direction of the gesture. Fixing that would be a step in the right direction.
