GT-AC5300 WRT query

I was wondering (and didn't see it posted) if ASUSWRT-Merlin has any plans on creating alternative firmware for the GT-AC5300 router. I've experienced some issues with the most recent supported firmware, enough to encourage me to look for alternate means of addressing and fixing those issues...
