Update - I just noticed in another thread that it's only for HW1.

    Asus XT8 HW1 & HW2 Asus-wrt Merlin GNUton

I have bought a pair of XT8 routers and was hoping to flash them with Asus-wrt Merlin GNUton. I noticed on the Asus firmware download page there is different firmware for HW1 and HW2 versions. I believe the XT8 firmware file for the XT8 is RT-AX95Q_3004_388.6_0-gnuton1_puresqubi.w. Does anyone...

XT8: dropping devices, can't connect AI Mesh nodes

Just wondering if the XT8's AiMesh problems have now been fixed either by stock firmware or GNUton updates. I was planning on getting a pair of XT9s (yes I know there are better performing options) but the XT8s are a good bit cheaper now. If they are now stable I don't think I would notice the...

    Choice of router/mesh point

From what I've read the XT9 is a bit more stable than the XT8, I don't know if firmware updates have altered this.

    Choice of router/mesh point

I've had a chance to play around with the RT-AX5400 as the router and the TUF Gaming AX3000 V2 as the AIMesh point. Firstly, it's wayyyyyy better than the Vodafone PoS router. I have around 55 device clients connected (most of them low bandwidth) but a few devices seem to randomly disconnect...

Is it a good or bad idea to split SSIDS?

What's the latest thinking on splitting SSIDs between 2.4 & 5GHz frequencies? I have around 30 smart switches, lights & other home automation devices which need a 2.4GHz connection and have set them up with the router in 2.4GHz mode only then turned on 5GHz again once they are connected. Are...

    Choice of router/mesh point

Yup, you're all correct, I did this the wrong way round. I didn't realise that AiMesh had these potential problems. Will connect everything and see how it works. If it's a disaster I can always ebay the kit and start again.

    Choice of router/mesh point

So any thoughts from anyone as to which router to use as the main one?

    Choice of router/mesh point

Thanks for your reply. Until last month I was using an Amplifi HD AC1750 mesh system on a Virgin cable 100Mbps connection which was actually fine for my needs as many of the connected devices take up very little bandwidth (smart switches & speakers etc), I only went for the 900 speed connection...

    Choice of router/mesh point

I've ordered an ASUS RT-AX5400 to replace the woeful THG3000 Vodafone landed on me when I changed broadband provider. I'm on the Fibre 900 package and use my broadband mainly for media streaming and home automation with 40-50 clients connected at any time. I have also bought an ASUS TUF Gaming...
