I'm delighted that you're finding this so interesting...
After initially thinking that INSSIDER was causing the issue, it was actually the repair of the installation of the Intel driver/software that fixed it...
Hopefully I can determine exactly what the problem is this particular...
Ok, bit of an update - this evening the performance reverted to garbage - no INSSIDER installed.
After a few other failed changes, I’ve repaired the installation of Intel Wireless Pro Set Manager and it’s gone back to normal.
I’ll uninstall that program and see if it falls over again when I...
Well... I think I've fixed it. More testing to come, but, after a LOT of configuration change and test:
I uninstalled INSSIDER, then...
I repaired the installation of my Intel wireless client (I had previously done this a number of times with no success)
Full speed maintained throughout the...
I was away at a family funeral yesterday, but when I got back I ran a quick check on a 1gb file transfer to and from my NAS, and over wifi, thru the 86u, my upload was about 235mbps (IIRC) and my download was 399 (I remember this specifically). I will obviously do much more testing of this, and...
Thanks for the detailed response! Just to be clear, I was able to manage 147mbs dl over wifi with A+ grades across the board around 3 weeks ago.
1: much more than 10 to 15ft away from the router will introduce obstructions, sadly. Laptop was in performance mode, and plugged in.
2: INSSIDER...
I've been chasing this around for a while, and though I'm confident with the manipulation of different firmware and basic Putty manipulation, actually snooping the root cause of my issues has been a bit of a fumble in the dark.
Specs:
86U - Latest Merlin FW
80mhz - ch 56 seems to be best so...
Has anybody actually managed to find a solution for this, as I'm in a very similar position .
86U, clear wifi channels and excellent signal strength and connection rates - UK ISP - 150dn/30up - Latest drivers in laptop for AC card and iphone XR all up to date. Sitting in direct line of site to...
I’ll get myself another router in the loop later and see if it makes a difference Martin.
If so, I’ll certainly lodge the issue with Asus. As my issue differs slightly from yours I’ll start another thread up to cover that with some data to back it up.

Hmmm... My Connection is PPPoE too. I wonder if this is contributing to my issues also?I'm in the UK on Zen Ultrafast with an FTP connection.
Might it be worth me going through the same steps as Martin and putting in a double NAT to get the wifi speeds up to scratch?
Hi Colin,
Before I rolled back the drivers, I was getting 82mbps tops. Now it will sometimes spike to 150, it can sometimes hold this for up to 2/3 of the test, before dropping back to anywhere between 30 and 80mbps ish.
153mbps is the best Speedtest result I’ve ever had, and I was getting...
Thanks Colin, I've rolled back as far as 384_10 so far... it's still misbehaving.
Cat6 direct to my laptop provides full speed. Cat6 via the router provides full speed.
The wifi link will support the speed, but not maintain it throughout a test. This is the case with the iPhone XR and the...
