Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta is now available

I was one of the users that experienced a high degree of instability of 384.19 on my RT-AC86U as a main node, so I went back to 384.18 (where everything is humming along nicely). I make use of an external USB stick for amtm and scripts. I am presuming that I also have the "old" configuration...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

This is another data point for RT-AC86U users that (to me) strongly suggests a correlation between using JFFS / amtm / scripts and experiencing difficulty under 384.19. In this user's sig, they indicate "No add-ons just a gateway" and I believe that contributes to what has made their experience...

What router seems to work best with the RT-AC86U in AiMesh?

Having just gone through this myself with an 86U as the main router and a 68U as the second router, I found the best success by configuring the 68U as an Access Point, hardwired to the 86U (from LAN port on 86U to WAN port on 68U), and broadcasting its own set of SSIDs. I had previously tried...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

I'd quote the old adage: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Why mess with anything if you are problem-free on 384.17?

    AIMESH or Access Points.. ???

I tried to set up the 68U as an Access Point and it would not cooperate. I did a hard reset, and it would go through the setup wizard, but then get hung up and I could not log into the GUI to set the mode as an AP. I tried two or three times and always got the same behavior. I was trying to...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

After browsing multiple threads related to different performance issues (384.19 stability, 5 GHz signal dropping, AiMesh nodes going offline), I am beginning to think that each RT-AC86U has unique behavior. One thread I read suggested that there were manufacturing quality issues related to...

    AIMESH or Access Points.. ???

I have an RT-AC86U as my main node, running Merlin 384.18, and was trying to run an RT-AC68U (also running 384.18) as an AiMesh node with only wireless backhaul as an option. I've tried two different locations in the house for the extra router, and in both cases I find that the RT-AC68U...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

Just curious, are you running amtm and/or any associated scripts? From scanning the posts in this thread, it appears that there may be an interaction there. Those with RT-AC86Us that don't use JFFS / scripts / etc. seem to be more trouble-free with 384.19 than those who run the scripts. I'm...

FlexQoS FlexQoS 1.0 - Flexible QoS Enhancement Script for Adaptive QoS

Thank you for this reply - it made the light bulb come on over my head to realize that I should be using the WAN DNS and not the LAN DNS. I'm going to switch that and see what happens with the pie chart.

FlexQoS FlexQoS 1.0 - Flexible QoS Enhancement Script for Adaptive QoS

I am using OpenDNS servers for DNS Server 1 and 2. When I look at my QoS data for my work laptop, I see that most packets are identified with the OpenDNS server IP address and the category "Untracked". I also connect to work through a Cisco VPN service, through which some of the traffic is...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

For what it's worth, since I have reverted my AC86U from 384.19 to 384.18, I have had FAR fewer connection drops. I think I'll leave it there instead of trying the nuclear 384.19 option.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

Interestingly, for me the GUI was reporting a strong 5 GHz signal between the 86U and the 68U - 4/4 bars. (No change from previous release.) Where I noticed the difference was at the locations where I was using a wireless device - my laptop had previously been getting 3/4 bars at the desk...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

I can confirm the password issue is real when reverting from 384.19 to 384.18. I reverted my RT-AC86U today, and the very first time I tried to log back into the GUI, my credentials were denied... same with admin/admin and admin/(blank). Not surprisingly, I was also denied when trying to SSH...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

I have an RT-AC86U and have been experiencing a high level of wireless client disconnects with this latest build. My current setup is Zoom cable modem hardwired via Ethernet cable to the RT-AC86U (Main) with an RT-AC68U as an AiMesh node. I've also seen a noticeable drop in wireless signal...
