Replacing Zywall 2 Plus with... what?

I'll have to admit that the AdvancedTomato route looks interesting. I like ZyXel and looked briefly at the USG40, but it is overkill for my home needs and keeping up the license after the first year is expensive for what I need. I am still looking for a low maintenance, drop in solution, but I...

Replacing Zywall 2 Plus with... what?

I have an Zywall 2 Plus that I am thinking of replacing. It has served me well, but is end of life with Zyxel. Last firmware update was from March 2011. This is for home use. I currently have a cable modem going to the Zywall 2 Plus. Everything else is behind it, including a Netgear WNDR3800...

    Yep Postini really was down

Sorry for the meta-question, but I am curious, in general terms, where are you located, Tim?

    Yep Postini really was down

Thanks, Tim. When I first check the Google page, I thought the $12 had a minimum number of users expected, probably from misreading the comment about discounts for 250 users or more. I will definitely use it on my mail server.

    Yep Postini really was down

I can't really tell if I was effected or not. I have a shared hosting account and can see that emails were filtered yesterday. I am curious how you are using Postini. Is it through your ISP or something else? Postini has worked well for me but I am in the process of using a different service...

    HP Mediasmart EX485 Sale

I have been thinking about getting a Windows Home Server for awhile. I am a big fan of Linux based NAS's for a long time and have several, but there are some aspects of the WHS that I have wanted to check out. The HP MediaSmart Server looked particularly interesting, and there have been some...

    Synology DS109 and DS109+ Reviewed

The specs say: DS109 size: 160mm (H) X 218mm (D) X 63mm (W) TS-119 size: 182mm (H) x 210mm (D) x 60mm (W) I am not sure about your situation, but to me, they look close enough in size that some other criteria could be used to decide which one to get.

    DS209+II avalable in US now

I probably am not the only one that has been waiting for the DS209+II to show up for sale in the US. I saw this morning that the DS209+II is in stock at my favorite online retailer - a large outfit named after the fresh fruit of a chicken. :)

    SYNOLOGY 409+ paperwieght

Actually - the same user posted the same comments on another forum and ended up with: "now things seem to be working as expected....just took WAY to long to recieve support. but the support (when they became familiar with the case) were very helpful." I think the user forgot to update...

Safe to use NAS as internet facing webserver?

The answer depends on what you are trying to do. I would not take a NAS out of the box and place it directly in on the internet with anything on it I wanted to protect. Personally, I would [not] give internet access to any server that had data on it I did not want the general public to have...

    Install CMS in 209j

I have not done this myself. You might ask on the Synology Forum. I see lots of forum entries there indicating people have successfully installed WordPress. Synology treats WordPress as a 3rd party app. There is a link to the 3rd party app installation here. And this link shows that...

    Synology DS109 and DS109+ Reviewed

No rush - I was happy to see that the DS109+ made the charts. I have been keeping an eye out a review or more information. I will wait patiently. :)

    Synology DS109 and DS109+ Reviewed

It looks like the Synology DS109+ snuck onto the NAS charts unannounced, unless I missed something. I did not see the usual pre-review, "new to the charts" news item. Is there a review on the way?

    Build Your Own Atom-based NAS

There are some articles in the "NAS How To" section that are Do It Yourself projects with hardware RAID controllers. Here are a couple of them: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/content/view/30431/77/ http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/content/view/27840/77/ The hardware controller offloads the...
