I dug out my long ethernet cable and did one more test with transparent bridge untagged and then ran a second LAN connection so it would get a DHCP response and a white status light:
Same nasty 70ms ping spikes 1-2 per minute...
So the second connection won't help in my case either...
I am 99%...
I just checked and according to the ext_phy_model output I have the older revision with the Broadcom BCM54991. But there may well be a codebase difference...
I am very surprised that you get the ping spikes in Router mode - that mode to me is the most stable one - which kind of makes sense...
Thank you for the results. I am using the 2.5gb port on my RT-AX86U.
I am using pingplotter 5 on a PC with the connection being just lightly used...
Pinging 8.8.8.8, google.com and akamai.com - all with basically the same results... 8.8.8.8 and google.com didn't go over 10ms once in the last 3...
Thank you - I had seen these reddit posts but could not find a way to do it on the RT-AX86U without adding a switch.
Either way I may abort my mission:
Since you are coming from the same GPON-Calix to GPON Q1000K and are having similar issues my test results may be interesting to you:

I am hoping for someone smarter than me to be able to give me a command sequence to put into the startup scripts to
trunk WAN traffic (tagged with VLAN 201 through IPTV settings) and LAN traffic (no VLAN tag) together onto the physical 2.5G Port so it will travel over one ethernet connection to...
Flashed yesterday on my RT-AX86U shortly after it was released.
Working 100% stable for me so far.
Thank you for all the hard work in keeping Asusmerlin going and thus making Asus Routers my #1 choice!
Dirty upgrade from alpha 15 hours ago.
Everything working stable for me - including WAN VLAN tagging and FlexQoS (with FC disabled).
Not sure if it is placebo effect: I noticed (also in the alpha) that 2.4GHz Wifi for my fringe device (Rainbird Ardurino dongle -85db signal level way out in the...
The latest Alpha Build for my RT-AX86U (3004.388.6_alpha1-gb287d474ae) seems to have fixed the Auto Logout. Now everytime I go to the browser IP it's asking me to login fresh without having logged out during the last sesssion - just as expected...
Before it would work for a couple of days and...
Alpha1 applied.
Router running stable - including WiFi, VLAN Tagging (TAG 201 for Quantum Fiber) and FlexQoS (with FC disabled).
Will post again only if anything doesn't work for me...
It's always been like that for me too... Both on Asus Firmware and Merlin - all the way back to at least my previous RT-AC68U - and probably even before then...
That's been the case for me forever - somehow the login cookie expires and the browser servers half stale data... I am pretty sure stock does the same...
