    I am wandering...

I've also spent many months wandering the Southwest. My favorite place in general, though other locations offer this or that, the SW always relaxes me. I'd suggest a trip to the Badlands, I spent 2 weeks there over the summer and greatly enjoyed it. As you said, it only takes 5-10 minutes hike...

DNS Providers - Who to trust?

Well, @Tech9 summed it up nicely. What I don't understand is the 'value' you seem to attach to your browsing data. I really don't care about it. In fact, when I'm searching to buy something, I welcome lucid suggestions. To each their own, but you aren't the first to think they are 'protecting'...

DNS Providers - Who to trust?

And? Your statement makes zero sense to me. So what if they get this or that info about me? I have a Google, Apple and Microsoft accounts, pay for storage with each of them. Buy products from all you listed. What more could they get from my DNS lookups? My IP address?

DNS Providers - Who to trust?

Hmmm, I guess I'm a neanderthal. I run two piholes that use unbound Use the default block list. I'm only looking to reduce ads. I've decided that chasing "privacy" is a foolish pursuit. Fingerprinting is much harder to avoid and provides all anyone would need to know about you. I don't live in a...

Asus RT-AX58U v2 Merlin: Route all traffic to Pi-hole (running directly on router itself)

Don't use the router as [function] is the best answer.

Actual proper setup and or guide to use an Asus router(ax58u) running Merlin firmware (latest) with pihole on raspberry pi model 3a+/b+

Don't set the pihole as the WAN (router) DNS. Set the pihole to accept all origins (unless you are quite familiar with these settings.) Use the DHCP server to assign the pihole IP to clients. Only list the pihole as adding another DNS entry will cause the pihole to not be used randomly. There...

Asus RT-AX88U Pro - Traffic Analyzer Causing limits in download speed

I'd simply ignore the router speed test. IMO it is not reliable for this and that reason, mainly due to the CPU. If you're getting reasonable result from connected devices, then you are golden. If the connected devices are getting poor speeds, then you need to get a heftier router or give up on...

Ideas on replacing firmware in tplink routers

Welcome to the family, we'll make the process easy on our annoying upstairs neighbors. As long as I have access to the Strategic Maple Syrup Reserve.

Is now the time to go to 5 Gbps or 10 Gbps home networking?

I'm not going to have used (or new) commercial equipment in my house. Noisy, power hungry, ugly (IMO). I also learned that homebrew equipment isn't always worth the cost in time for me. I have the equipment in my signature. Runs great, no heat issues, no big power draw, wife loves the look of...

Is now the time to go to 5 Gbps or 10 Gbps home networking?

I have a few servers and a NAS on my LAN. When it became possible to go 2.5, I went. I'm not going to spend the cash, power, or cooling for 10 Gb internally. If I do anything video related, I find my 4 Tb SSD both cheaper and faster than any LAN I'm going to afford. The 2.5 has been great for...

Does the Synology RT6600AX block a particular adult site?

If you have a problem with mistyped domains or the inadvertent searches (small girls nighty, etc) then blocking is nice. If your problem is a dependent who actively seeks porn, violence, strange ideology, etc then there is nothing you're going to do about it. I like blocking to keep all the...

News PuTTY v0.82 Released Today 2024-11-27

A suggestion for WinSSHTerm Does many things well, and is tabbed for those of us who have a few servers or need to view a log while doing something. You can use the updated inbuilt tools (putty, pageant, etc) or if you want, use your own copies of them.

Looking for info on Coaxial cabling.

In my last house, there were coax and splitters everywhere. I had the cable company come out and run one run to the modem. I later added a splitter and a run to enable MoCa. Worked great afterward and for the 10 year run in the house. Point is, if you are dealing with unknowns, install fresh.

So Long, Thanks For All The Help

That's my thought. I had ~20 minutes of new software/firmware for the console and the APs when they first powered up. All I can report is what I have here and they are cool, quiet, and troublefree. I don't have a real complex configuration but it was extremely easy to do the things I need to...

So Long, Thanks For All The Help

Surprisingly, I have had zero (!) problems with my motley mix of plugs, switches, doorbells, streaming devices, leak detectors, thermostats, TVs, weather station loggers. I don't run any cameras except doorbells.
