Asus updates its EOL list, adds RT-AC1750, AC1900P, AC88U, AC5300

Thanks for the correction, I'm not really up to speed with Qualcomm chipsets.

Asus updates its EOL list, adds RT-AC1750, AC1900P, AC88U, AC5300

Broadcom based routers are a no go as the WiFi isn't supported with the exception of the RT-AC88U, so I would only install OpenWrt on them for checking it out. My RT-AC87U, which has a similar processor to the RT-AC68U, does about 300 Mb/s max NAT, about what it did under Merlin with NAT...

Asus updates its EOL list, adds RT-AC1750, AC1900P, AC88U, AC5300

With software NAT offloading on recent hardware it can still route 1 Gb/s unless QoS is turned on. Turning on QoS also defeats NAT acceleration on Asus and other vendors firmware.

Asus updates its EOL list, adds RT-AC1750, AC1900P, AC88U, AC5300

The RT-AC88U is the best OpenWrt supported recent Broadcom based Asus router. The WiFi is also supported on it, which normally isn't the case on Broadcom based routers as there mostly aren't working open souurce drivers for their chips. Though If you have a family to feed - I mean an Internet...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.4 beta is now available

Updating the Linux kernel is impossible on these routers, the kernel they ship with is the only kernel they will ever run as it's tied to Broadcom's SDK.

Asus updates its EOL list, adds RT-AC1750, AC1900P, AC88U, AC5300

Of course, but one can buy a new fully OpenWrt supported router for considerably less than a new Broadcom based Asus and they wouldn't have to buy another router for many years unless they wanted better hardware.

Asus updates its EOL list, adds RT-AC1750, AC1900P, AC88U, AC5300

I did look at those and while they are very good they weren't the best solution for me for a number of reasons: 1) They run on a much, much smaller subset of devices compared to OpenWrt. 2) They're solutions geared more towards business, so If you want to use home router features like file...

Asus updates its EOL list, adds RT-AC1750, AC1900P, AC88U, AC5300

You're welcome, and, just to clarify, mine wasn't a shameless plug for OpenWrt as nobody has anything to gain from people using it or not, it's free and open source router software developed and supported by a community of volunteers. I'm just very happy with it and I only wish I had switched...

Asus updates its EOL list, adds RT-AC1750, AC1900P, AC88U, AC5300

Try OpenWrt instead. It's very actively developed and supports many devices, including all-in-one routers with WiFi, with up to date Linux kernel (!) and components. It's fully open source, it has a huge software repository, without the need to rely on Entware, an active community of developers...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.5 Beta is now available

Hi Sheikh, what problems are you seeing with NAT passthrough? I'm interested as I use it and I haven't updated yet and I can't try as due to a situation at home I need a 100% stable network for the time being.

Skynet New Release 7.2.6 migrates to 7.2.7 to 7.2.8 to ((7.3.0 Repealed))

Folks use Skynet to protect themselves against known bad actors on their open and forwarded ports, as well as on connections originating from their LAN towards the Internet and/or what comes back, all of which aren't protected by the built in firewall or NAT. The IOT blocking feature is the...

    Solved OpenVPN server issue

Yep, just downloaded 0.7.27 and it also works with the Load OpenSSL legacy provider option turned off, so it was an app issue.

    Solved OpenVPN server issue

Yeah it's a stable and well maintained app, possibly too well sometimes :) I think these changes are related to the latest OpenVPN version 2.5.4 released on October 5th, the dev has updated his app straight away and enforced some new security requirements while providing fallback options. To be...

    Solved OpenVPN server issue

There's been another update to the app (v. 0.7.26) and with it the VPN wouldn't start as the app says it doesn't support the BF-CBC cipher. Worked around by enabling Load OpenSSL legacy provider under the profile configuration Basic tab. This is more likely an app issue.
