Just a data point: I installed (AX-86U) using ColinTaylor's exact steps, then rebooted the router, and Tailscale is still running.

As bbunge reports, I've seen the same thing (also with Tapo cameras, and using an AX86U with an AC86U node in AIMesh) - my extra entries disappeared after DHCP lease renewal, and (also?) after I'd removed by reserved DHCP entries for the cameras.

Same for me, so I'm guessing you're using Firefox. As Merlin has noted in this thread and elsewhere, it's Firefox that's the problem. Just rename the file with the cfg extension.

Another AX86U user checking in to report no issues with 386.7, and no perceived difference in performance. I did factory reset a day or so after installation, but that was mostly because I was messing around with Tailscale - everything was working fine before that.

386.3_2 failed on my first try (86U), but worked fine on the second after I'd unmounted my USB drive to free up memory.
