Thanks!
For my use case, "best" would be strongest WiFi signal as an Access Point (i.e. longest WiFi range that can provide a speed as close to my ISP speed of 300/300Mbps). My Verizon G1100 is still performing routing functions.
Stock firmware has been good so far (weak spot coverage is a...
Thanks for the input! I came across Voxel, but it doesn't look like it supports the R7000 (it supports the R7800 and a few more models). If I missed something, please let me know. Thanks again!
Nothing notable to add on top of what the local gurus have added, aside from the fact that I was just setting this up yesterday on an old Netgear R7000. Many Netgear routers also support an "Access Point" mode, where the WAN port becomes a LAN port. It wouldn't surprise me that most major...
Hi Everyone,
Question: Given that the Netgear R7000 is over 10 years old at this point, is there a consensus on the best Firmware (i.e. FreshTomato?) to use, specifically for the purposes as a wireless Access Point? I thought I had read that custom firmware such as FreshTomato couldn't take...
To add some closure here - ZenWifi XT8 has been shelved. RT-AC56U has been replaced with a Netgear R7000 that my brother had lying around.
As my main issue was signal strength in a couple of weak spots upstairs (mainly with the 5Ghz band), I am hoping that the external antennas can provide the...
Update on the situation: I am pretty sure the XT8 is defective. I have reverted to my RT-A56U for the time being.
Last week, my Wi-Fi Thermostat and Garage door opener (both on the 2.4Ghz band) reported being offline. It turns out the XT8 was intermittently dropping the 2.4Ghz band. It may be...
Thanks for confirming. That's a bummer to hear. I am wondering if doing the Hard Reset procedure in Post #9 is worth a shot. My other thought, due to the temperatures I was initially seeing the GNUton, is that the 5Ghz-2 band somehow fried itself.
I will likely disable the 5GHz-2 band and...
Ah, my apologies. I saw that tab, but forgot to copy-and-paste the contents here. Wireless Log contents pasted below. Thanks again!
EDIT: From a quick glance, it looks like where it should show the info for SSID Home Dundalk 5_2, it's showing "SSID: "" " in the log. The Configuration for this...
System Log attached. Apologies for the delay. This is after running on the latest stock firmware for just over 2 weeks. The ZenWifi XT8 has been running without incident for this time period, though I haven't done any additional speed or range tests
I have also attached screenshots of the...
Oh, I just came across this Hard Reset procedure:
https://www.asus.com/us/support/faq/1046973/
I have never performed this. I was just using the Reset pin for the 3-4 resets I've been doing. Just adding this FYI.
Ah, got it. I will check that tab out when I get back home. I am still on the latest stock firmware.
If the 5Ghz-2 band isn't able to be repurposed to be useful (preferably with the same SSID as my 5Ghz-1), then I would just turn it off to keep the heat down.
I will post the log first, though.
