Did you have any luck doing this? I tried doing this for an Asus-5300 and so far I haven't had any success in getting anything to compile correctly. I can for openwrt, but then it won't run on the 5300 since it is not an architecture option there.

Update: These access points are Loco 5's and so don't use a controller.

No. We are not using a Unifi controller although that was the semi-aim of introducing the Asus. I'll look into that. In the meantime, if anyone has a solution for the 5300 I'd be interested to know that as well.
