VPN clients suddenly won't connect to server

Problem solved, but this new angle is interesting... work is done on Windows machine. Editor is Notetab Lite--sometimes paste into notepad for temp storage. Clients are android devices. This has worked for 3 years with no problems I could ever detect from files created in those editors Just...

VPN clients suddenly won't connect to server

continuing... I looked in web search articles and found how to create a ta.key file.. openvpn --genkey --secret ta.key and text to server "Static key" block and to the client ovpn <tls-auth> key-here </tls-auth> section. ...and it CONNECTS! Weird that key got 'bad' somehow as I had done NO...

VPN clients suddenly won't connect to server

Thanks.. I will try what you suggest in a bit, but I have to drive to a foreign wifi point with the client to test..cannot be "ON" the same router as the server when testing--doesn't ever work that way. And yes, public IP (WAN IP) changed. I am on dynamic public, but with our ISP, it rarely...

Did I leave something out I should have posted? No help.

VPN clients suddenly won't connect to server

Server is the built-in in Firmware:378.56_2 in an AC-68U. Clients are OpenVPN Connect app in android phone and a tablet. --These formerly worked (connected). Had not used for awhile. --Tried, now won't connect. --Saw that home WAN IP shown in the UI of AC68 for the modem had changed. (This...

Basic knowledge only--VPN config not right

Well, close this. I solved it by biting the bullet and rebuilding ALL of the ca, certs, and keys, and dh in easy-rsa. What a pain. But it worked.

Basic knowledge only--VPN config not right

Wait...above I noted that the ca had changed--would that invalidate the cert and key being used? How do I get new cert and key that will match the ca that the onboard OpenVPN server created? I do remember that months ago, I went through a process to change from 1024 to 4048 "stuff"--probably...

Basic knowledge only--VPN config not right

Further info, I was a bit wrong above. I took a client with the revised ovpn in it out to the public hotspot, and it did flow traffic both in and out, but never completed a successful negotiation and tunnel setup.

Basic knowledge only--VPN config not right

I know a little bit about VPN setups...emphasis on the "little" word. Here is the situation: I had not used my VPN setup for a while (though it worked before), but an email problem caused ISP to change my public WAN IP, so I know I had to edit the configs in clients. VPN server is the built...

    AC68U (was TM-AC1900) won't accept 378.56, or anything

It is resolved now that the 30-30-30 gave me access, which is said above does not work on ASUS, so who knows what did it. But what you describe WAS the situation before 30-30-30 worked. No matter what I did with the things you can do with reset button, or WPS button, there were no pages...

    AC68U (was TM-AC1900) won't accept 378.56, or anything

The problem is that some of these bricks (mine) resulted in no ability to get an admin page, miniCFE, telnet or putty prompt, or ping response. The router had no IP address to talk to.

    AC68U (was TM-AC1900) won't accept 378.56, or anything

Sorry. I know how I felt. If you want to go through the effort, look into getting a JTAG module and cable. With a true brick, it is about the only way. Your report does support what Kal-El said. I don't know why it worked for me.

    AC68U (was TM-AC1900) won't accept 378.56, or anything

All I can tell you is facts. I had done the WPS hold then pwr on. x-many I had done ordinary reset press with power on. x-many I had done reset hold when pwr off then on (recovery). x-many NONE of those gave me a router that would open an interface or respond to ping. 30-30-30 did. x-1

    AC68U, 378.56_2, OpenVPN for 2nd client

I see. Can multiple ones still connect at the same time if they have same keys/cert? Incidentally, since you're here :) if I decide to drop to 378.55 from 56_2, would reset and/or nvram erase be required?
