Viability of 10Gbe SMB Direct (RDMA) for Windows Server NAS to workstations in 2017?

For a small office, you can run a DC on a NUC with an Atom CPU - just make sure you have two of them for redundancy. And don't worry about LACP or anything, just plug the NICs into ports and have some sort of IP addressing running, SMB3 sorts it all out for you. :)

Ditching UniFi but need an alternative

Netgear's ProSafe WAPs, for instance the WAC730 or WAC740, are going to give you much better throughput than using their routers, as would something like the Cisco WAP581. They're pricey, but if you really want throughput, just go straight to business products and they won't let you down.

Viability of 10Gbe SMB Direct (RDMA) for Windows Server NAS to workstations in 2017?

Rule #1 of building your own storage server: Don't put a domain controller on it. Rule #2 of building your own storage server: DON'T PUT A DOMAIN CONTROLLER ON IT!!! Being a domain controller disables write caching. Needless to say, that's abysmal for performance for a storage server. Aside...

New GB house cabling showing 100 Mbps on Switch

Some switches can also check your cabling for you and diagnose faults and location. One of my cables is only running at 100 Mbps (fortunately it's not at all important) because I nicked the jacket while pulling. Still need to go re-pull it, actually ... sounds like a good project for tonight.

Even scarier than health records, and more tightly controlled in the USA, are student records and postal records. It comes down to a concept called, "Due diligence".

That's correct, for a wireless captive portal you need a WAP, and a wired only model doesn't have wireless. Cisco integrates the captive portal functionality into their access points, regardless of if it's in the WAP itself or into a router with a built-in WAP. What's amazing is that you think...

I tried Ubiquiti's line, but there were too many updates so they required unending tinkering, incomplete documentation on issues, and they would randomly send incomplete packets and reboot modems here. You can wireshark them, they in the past had major problems with handling the high speed...

They also have the RV340W with a captive portal for guest WiFi, and even without a POS you can keep guest WiFi separated - very handy indeed. I have an RV340 I've been configuring, and though it's not terribly obvious in its configuration (one of these days Cisco should hire a UX engineer)...

For a small branch office use case, I see it being quite handy. If you have a retailer with small shops (think coffee/tea shop sized, or even restaurants) the 16 port switch with PoE can make the device your sole endpoint with site to site back to your actual IT resources. It has VPN support...

NETGEAR Adds More PoE Switches For Growing SMBs

Depends on PoE needs and really if you're already invested into one set of switches or the other already. If you're a Netgear shop, go Netgear, if you're a UniFi shop, go with them. The hardware is nearly identical so it comes down to admin interfaces and slight differences in L3 performance...

CCNA's are easy to pick up a phone and get ahold of, so there's professional support I can have at the drop of a hat. I can also manage their clients using any MDM, even odball ones, because everyone supports Cisco. Heck, I can even bet a Symbian or Blackberry device to connect via AnyConnect...

    1) I know it's not IOS, but this is the first router product from Cisco to use a bunch of the code from IOS (including the AnyConnect compatibility). 2) No, Linksys is not owned by Cisco, it's owned by Belkin and has been for over four years now. Their previous products in the line were indeed...

Given the choice between Cisco AnyConnect and OpenVPN, I'd take AnyConnect any day. For Cisco, this product is positively a steal, BTW.

Not mentioned in the review, they also offer the RV340, which has 4 LAN ports and they're rear facing (for when you already own the switch). Also, the AnyConnect client comes with two licenses for mobile clients for free - so iOS, Android and even Windows Mobile can connect without paying any...
