    RX usage tripled

I had a similar problem. I found two causes: My wife was confined to bed, started watching streaming and falling asleep to streaming running. My son discovered some creative sources for shows he liked. A DMCA notice alerted me to this. I eventually coughed up $25/month (use Xfinity's gateway...

    New kernel version

"How do we get a release out the door without pissing off our customers too much?" It has to be "good enough" that customers will come back for a newer model some day. It costs money to update firmware and remove bugs. If you can't charge more for that, you lose money. It takes time to update...

    USB drive failure...or something worse?

$0.02 is about right. I started writing up a list of USB stick attributes., but it came down to one thing: Cheap USB sticks should not be written to more than about 100 times. If you stick with that, you're fine. IMHO.

Segmentation Faults/Tainted Binaries/Inconclusive Disk Scans and other woes... ;)

A crash (such as segmentation fault, signal 11) generates a register dump. The register dump contains information about the kernel. Since the kernel is "tainted" (contains closed-source portions), you will see the word "Tainted" in the register dump. This has nothing to do with the actual...

Segmentation Faults/Tainted Binaries/Inconclusive Disk Scans and other woes... ;)

"Tainted" has nothing to do with the program that crashed (7za, nmap, etc.). That is a reminder that the kernel is not pure open-source, something that the GPL originators feel very strongly about. Every stack trace will say "Tainted". Because of the binary blobs that Merlin has to work with...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

I cheated. Clean upgrade from 386.3_2 to 388.1_0. Then I copied dhcp_staticlist, vpn_serverx_clientlist, and custom_clientlist from the old /jffs/nvram (which I saved before upgrade) to the 388 /jffs/nvram. Then I didn't have to re-enter the static, the vpn, or the mac/hostname/icon information...

Can I enter my monthly traffic max in the traffic stats?

Comcast texts me when I hit 75%, then 90%, then 100% of the cap. I have the opportunity to pay for unlimited bandwidth ($30 / month) and it becomes effective immediately, so there's no overage.

Switch WAN based on internet speed

RMerlin has said he would not support this in Asuswrt-Merlin. See here for very good reasons: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/how-can-i-bond-two-vpn-connections.64230/

Switch WAN based on internet speed

I don't think you can do it with the router. A co-worker, a total geek, set up Multi-path TCP from a Linux server in his house, out both a DSL modem and MuskNet (aka StarLink), to an AWS node that terminated the MPTCP and sent the packets on via TCP. It solved his reliabilty problem with both...

is a USB 2.0 flash drive fast enough for use with asuswrt-merlin + add ons?

Use an SSD like @Tech9 said. Modern USB drives are engineered for speed and cost. Reliability is not a priority. If you just copy things on and off of a USB drive, it's fine. If it's your swap drive, you'll be disappointed.

Solved Intercepting NTP traffic Philips Hue Hub

Why does a light bulb need to know what time it is? I can think of two reasons besides knowing the time that the NTP requests are being made: 1) They're lazy and didn't turn it off 2) The request exposes the bulb's (or router's) IP address to the Chinese server for their use
