[Beta] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.6 beta is now available

Because I am having an issue with OpenVPN client (posted here), I installed this beta to see whether it makes a difference. It does not. The issue, possibly bug, is still there, as it was in the previous version. Apart from that I have nothing to complain. Thank you Merlin!

    OpenVPN policy routing guide?

I am having an issue with OpenVPN, Policy based routing: Recently, after subscribing to a VPN service, I added on the router an OpenVPN client with a policy for routing one device (IP address) through the VPN. I do not want to use the VPN for everything, just some devices. I followed the...

WDS (Wireless Distribution System) and Encryption in Asus Firmware

Finally, I like to deliver the rest of the story and hope it might help somebody with similar issues: I abandoned WDS. As RMerlin wrote, it has many limitations. For a while I had it in place. Since encryption is still not supported here for the RT-AC5300, I established the link to the...

[CRITICAL] ASUS RT-AC5300 DEAD Failed Upgrade to 380.62_1

As long as flashing is still possible I would flash the latest stock firmware, verify whether the issue persists, reset to factory state and return it with a pure conscience. This way nobody can complain. But it is good to know that Asus might accept returns with custom firmware on it.

[CRITICAL] ASUS RT-AC5300 DEAD Failed Upgrade to 380.62_1

I would flash the stock firmware using the mini web GUI, clearing the NV-RAM beforehand. As far as I know the NV-RAM can also be cleared using the command line. That is an alternative, just in case the first method has not worked properly. Thereafter the device should initialize itself after...

[CRITICAL] ASUS RT-AC5300 DEAD Failed Upgrade to 380.62_1

This is weird. I do not have that. Mine is at 0% most of the time, for both cores, occasionally some spikes up, because there is some traffic for internet radio going on. Although I do not think that it is related, I want to mention that I also once had issues. I have the second RT-AC5300 now...

[CRITICAL] ASUS RT-AC5300 DEAD Failed Upgrade to 380.62_1

I also flashed 380.62_1 some time ago on my RT-AC5300 and did not have issues. I did it successfully the following way: Turned the device off Set a static IP address on the connected computer, e.g. 192.168.1.99 While pressing the reset button turned the device on, still holding the reset...

WDS (Wireless Distribution System) and Encryption in Asus Firmware

I can’t use media bridge mode because of the unfortunate way Asuswrt implements it. The reason I am using an RT-AC5300 and an RT-AC3200 is because they have two transmitters in the 5GHz band. Further, the separate antennas for receive and transmit enhance throughput. In my configuration, the...

WDS (Wireless Distribution System) and Encryption in Asus Firmware

Thank you for the explanation. I see your point, but here the manufacturer is Asus. It has WPA2-Personal support for WDS in its RT-AC3200 and RT-AC68U models, probably more, but does not have it in its new and most expensive model, the RT-AC5300. I do not understand why that can’t be done...

WDS (Wireless Distribution System) and Encryption in Asus Firmware

The Asus RT-AC5300 does not support encryption for WDS bridging. This is hardly to explain, since the RT-AC5300 is Asus’s flagship and most expensive router. In contrast, cheaper Asus devices like RT-AC3200 and RT-AC68U support encryption, namely WPA2-Personal. My configuration: An RT-AC5300 is...
