Hi - Thanks for the responses. This does assuage my concerns, somewhat. Whether enough to buy I don't know. I guess I don't think it's acceptable to issue an OS or firmware or other update that might wipe out a user's data, even if it's from user misunderstanding of the instructions...

Hi Steve and others, thanks for the responses. I like this one because it confirms my own amateur question that maybe I don't need to worry about too many drives and RAID and so-on, but just make sure I have backup and a backup of the backup. Any positive or negative experiences out there...
