    DIY or buy used?

definitely the DIY. 1. the failure rate is probably higher because of the extra points where it could fail, but i don't think this is should be a huge concern. 2. powerhungry, definitely. does depend on what processor you pick, i think you could manage sub 75W easily with lowest CPU state...

    DIR 655 vs DGL 4500

well i purchased the dgl-4500 for $140 CAN. not a bad price. frankly the extra 30 dollars for the 4500 is probably a good investment for future upgrades (considering my WRT54GS version 1.0 has lasted me 5-6 years)

    DIR 655 vs DGL 4500

I am primarily looking for the best bandwidth and range out of the two. QoS and wired routing speed is not a issue; it will function purely as an access point for wireless-only clients. (pfSense and dedicated switch) Which one has the higher bandwidth? About 70 percent of the clients have N...

Building High Performance NAS / HTPC

i'm sure you will need a dedicated raid controller for RAID5 ~100 MB/s, esp. with large disks. 2 gigabit trunk will probably be necessary. (depends on what gigabit interface, pci or pcie)

    Dual WAN using pfSense

Mine is fairly intensive, but relatively low cost: Q6600 quad core CPU, Intel 4 port gigabit adapter, 8 GB ddr2. Keep in mind that my setup runs not only pfSense but a multitude of other stuff, but you should be looking at perhaps Via C7 or Atom (atom might even be too much, should easily handle...

    Dual WAN using pfSense

a fairly low power box should be able to take care of such a load. i know pcengines alix won't be able to sustain that speed. personally i am building a vmware ESXi whitebox with a similar application-two WANs, run pfsense and a ton of other virtual machines (server applications, etc), and quad...

HELP! How to salvage data from a failed RAID1 setup (Hammer MyShare)

try runtime's raid reconstructor; i've heard good things about it. then i would try to get my hands on a replacement "chassis" to put your old drives in. best of luck!
