    Ok thanks, I figured it was defective. I just wanted confirmation that I didn't do anything stupid before i go through the return/ Asus warranty process.

    Well, it is an issue with the 2.4 band. Opening it up, it still will not connect to the 2.4 band. Seems to be a hardware issue, but its coincidental that it occurred a little after updating the firmware.

    I just setup a new RT-AC86U, initial setup everything was working including the 2.4Ghz band. I left for a few hours come home and update the firmware to the newest ASUS firmware (kicking myself for this) and now the 2.4Ghz band is not connecting.
