    dnsmasq problem since .3 upgrade

Well the issue was something that was changed between 386.3 and 386.3.2. The remote router had been updated to 386.3 a few days ago when I was physically near it and by the time I got back home here 386.3.2 became available. So this router got updated to that. That's when I saw the problem...

    dnsmasq problem since .3 upgrade

Thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately when I tried that it didn't change the outcome. The syslog on router A correctly says "using nameserver 192.168.2.1#53 for domain B" but it doesn't seem to actually be sending the nslookup request there. It just times out. It sort of looks like it...

    dnsmasq problem since .3 upgrade

I have a pair of RT-88U routers that maintain a permanent vpn between my 2 homes. Router A has the VPN server, B has the client. This has all worked fine for ages. I just upgraded to 386.3 and now name resolution across the tunnel from the A end to nodes on the B end no longer works. I have...

Local name resolution with modem unplugged?

Aha! Thanks. Yes that was set - don't know why it got that way since my other identical router I had set with that off.

Local name resolution with modem unplugged?

I was doing some testing on a power reset system I run and I noticed that if I powered down the modem on the AC88 that I run it appears that local name resolution fails. What I get if I try to go to a local web page is a redirect to a router page that says the modem is unplugged and prompts me...

    cant reboot router

I see this periodically on my AC88Us (2 of them). From what I can tell a process on the router gets into the Linux uninterruptible sleep state (D in a ps listing). Once this happens you won't be able to soft reboot. You'll see what you are seeing which is the reboot countdown but afterwards...

    restart webui

Just one caution. If this does not seem to work then if you do a ps you may find the httpd still there but in the dreaded "D" state of uninterruptable sleep. If this is the case then not only can't you restart the web UI but you likely can't ever reboot the router from software. You will have...

Any simple way to have a VPN client not stop trying to connect?

Duh (slapping myself on the side of the head)! Thanks - didn't think to look at the OpenVPN man since for some reason I was fixated on it as a Merlin interface thing.

Any simple way to have a VPN client not stop trying to connect?

I run a pair of AC88U with 384.10 that maintain a "permanent" VPN connection between their respective LANs using OpenVPN in the router. For the most part this work great. However, on occasion if one of the respective ISPs has a somewhat prolonged outage (over an hour?) as one of mine did last...

    AC88U with Core 2 locked at 100%

It's a pretty simple situation - no scripts to speak of. The main item running is a permanent VPN connection to my other house. That is accomplished by a standard OpenVPN client on this router. There is also a VPN server running on it (though idle) to allow an alternative way in if I screw up...

    AC88U with Core 2 locked at 100%

I had AiProtection not enabled on the router so doesn't seem that would be the cause here but thanks.

    AC88U with Core 2 locked at 100%

Happened to log into my router (384.10.2) this morning and noticed that core 2 was locked at 100%. Things seemed to be working ok but it was clear that wasn't a normal condition (no variance at all from 100% use). Top showed no particular processes hogging the system but did show a load...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 384.8 is now available

Previous poster sounded like he was reporting an issue inside the house. The message you are showing is an issue between your router and your ISP. I had this exact problem appear a while back out of nowhere (hadn't recently updated router). What I discovered was that without touching the...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 384.8 is now available

Dirty upgrade from 384.7_2 with no problems. Runs a site to site permanent VPN with dnsmasq configured to cross resolve names and all remained solid (other end of tunnel is currently 384.7 since not willing to risk a remote upgrade with no ability to manually reboot if needed).

    Asuswrt-Merlin 384.8 is now available

Noticed this change: - CHANGED: Push LAN domain to OpenVPN clients as DNS suffix for the connection. Can anyone tell me the import of this. I currently run 2 AC88U routers that run a "permanent" VPN between our 2 houses, with appropriate config adds to dnsmasq at each end to allow cross...
