Netgear ReadyNAS DUO, Wireless N but only 1MB/s speed?

Thanks for your prompt response - much appreciated. I connected it direct to the laptop on windows 7 using a static ip address and I got speeds of just over 4MB/s - which is better but still not great. It does mean my main problem seems to be my router though - any ideas on how to improve...
