I just got this router and well to put it simple could someone give me an idiots guide to flashing this router? I will not take the firmware file as is. Any help at all would be appreciated

I am thinking of upgrading my main router and would like to use my current router (DIR-655) if I do this upgrade in my office to replace my current wireless bridge......is this possible? If so how would I set the DIR-655 up as a bridge to access the new router?
