    Bridging Subnets

Look at the routing table. Sounds like you need to manually add the route or turn on a routing protocol like RIP on each of the routers.

restrict port forwarding to a domain

Many of the free Linux firewall distros come with site to site VPN. I had used smoothwall's VPN to connect to my friends smothwall across the world (US to Greece). Once configured it just comes up as another subnet. I was able to browse his shares and copy files. we were only limited by his slow...

    Is this possible? NAS question

Vista DOES do software RAID1 (mirroring) so did xp! Windows will not let you set the boot drive in software RAID. You must use 2 additional drives.

WLAN router that NEVER needs rebooting?

The only time I reboot the smoothwall is after a patch, or sometimes when I'm fiddling with settings. Otherwise it has never crashed or needed a hard reset. They the have an uptime addon module. but I haven't installed it. k

    Need Recommendation...I'm sick of this

I have read that Buffalo products have higher power. dd-wrt and similar firmware may allow turning up the power on compatible devices. I have been looking at http://www.ubnt.com/ bullet series and RocketDish to bridge 5ghz/MIMO 2miles to my brothers house. They have some other higher power...

New network layout + prospective purchases; need someone to look over them

Some of those distros ofter those services, others have it as an addon. I can understand that power usage may be of concern. I stripped down the firewall pc to barebones, and swapped the 400w for a 230w. You'd probably have to experiment to see what is enough. Regarding the noise, my wife...

Why does this happen with my network?

A live CD inux distro called backtrack which is used for penetration testing has wireless packet sniffing software that you could use to see whats going on. k

New network layout + prospective purchases; need someone to look over them

Your plan looks good. The only thing I would add is a Linux firewall between the cable modem and the switch. Then you can use the wireless routers as an access point only, or if you use more than 2 Nics you can configure physically separate subnets. For example you could put the less secure...
