    Question about Multiple MoCA hubs

A “PoE” MoCA filter wouldn’t be needed for securing the setup if the MoCA coax segment is physically isolated; its alternate use case is discussed in the “input-fed vs all outputs” topology comment above.

    Question about Multiple MoCA hubs

Talk to dopewaffles in the Reddit HomeNetworking sub. He had a batch of Frontier FCA252 adapters he was looking to offload at pretty good pricing. (see here)

    Replacing router in MoCA network

Excellent summary on the efficiency improvement front. Yes, this covers the info that I was trying to communicate.

    Replacing router in MoCA network

p.s. To my understanding, there is no such thing as a splitter “certified” for MoCA; just splitters with published specs docs demonstrating MoCA-optimized characteristics. (i.e. lower insertion loss b/w input and outputs and lower output port isolation, as measured at MoCA frequencies) The...

    Replacing router in MoCA network

Speaking 100% theoretically, yes, I believe your MoCA network efficiency and performance should be the same with the amp powered or not, given all MoCA communication is occurring between the output ports and with MoCA signals (frequencies) isolated from the amp circuitry. That said, I...

    Replacing router in MoCA network

So what is connected to the input port of the amp? If nothing, and you don’t have cable TV or OTA antenna signals fed into the amp needing amplification, then the amp provides no benefit to your MoCA-only setup that couldn’t be better-delivered using a passive component configuration. (>see...

    Replacing router in MoCA network

Router choice seems to leave room for upgrades, having two 2.5 GbE network ports, so 👍 My only curiosity is unrelated to the router swap … wondering why a “designed for MoCA 2.x” amp is being used (no amp appears required based on depicted connections.), and whether all MoCA node connections to...

New MoCA 2.5 Access adapter: Frontier FMT25A

Update/CAUTION: Per goCoax, these adapters can only be used to connect to a MoCA Access controller, not to another “CPE.”

Change in ISP TV and want to use MoCA

FYI/FWIW ... Just stumbled over a few similar example schemes when looking for images for a different thread.

Change in ISP TV and want to use MoCA

I suspect that the TV+ setup is currently working because the G3100 is still functioning as the primary router, with the Orbi setup only handling the WLAN duties. The same could be done in the “relocated” setup if TV+ proves troublesome with the FiOS router eliminated.

Change in ISP TV and want to use MoCA

MoCA WAN spec of the G3100 is moot for OP, per their latest diagram, since they’re looking to relocate the router to enable an Ethernet WAN link between the ONT and primary router.

Change in ISP TV and want to use MoCA

The STB is only getting QAM TV signals direct from the ONT. As mentioned, the ONT offers no LAN connectivity; the Verizon FiOS MoCA WAN operates at MoCA 1.1 channel C4 (975-1025 MHz), but is disabled when using a superior Ethernet WAN connection to the router. The FiOS STBs operate at MoCA...

Change in ISP TV and want to use MoCA

The router wouldn’t necessarily need to be co-located with the ONT at this future date, presuming you run a couple Cat6 lines between the ONT location and router … one for the WAN link and another for LAN connectivity. p.s. By the way, the updated diagram (with corrections) would work for older...

Change in ISP TV and want to use MoCA

It can, but only as a more limited (lesser throughout*) alternative to an Ethernet WAN link. (The ONT has no “LAN” connectivity to offer.) * Frontier has ONT’s that support a full throughput MoCA 2.5 WAN link built-in, as a fallback when an Ethernet WAN link with the router isn’t possible …...
