    wireless backhaul fails often.

I don’t think this has anything to do with signal/placement. Similar wpa loop happens on xt12 too. Note that it’s wl2, backhaul band. One thing that kept the nodes stable longer is setting gtk rekey longer. (Disabling with 0 doesn’t work, it just starts to retry immediately.) You could try...

    wireless backhaul fails often.

Enable SSH, login to your node IP, watch the logs with; tail -f /tmp/syslog.log it could be a radar event that only detected by your node, or something else...

    Tutorial Optimized settings for XT12 / XT8

mu-mimo is useless for backhaul, and beamforming was creating huge latency spikes on my setup. I'm currently moving to unifi, which is not great with wireless backhaul, but at least it's more stable. As for recommended settings, at the end I started to setup everything (except the initial...

    SSID password changes itself.

Not 100% sure, but it makes sense. I always encountered it while setting up the router.

    SSID password changes itself.

Nothing to do with your CPU, it was happening to me on M3 Mac & Safari. Probably your two computers have different versions of browsers/settings/plugins. It could also happen on a fresh browser - you need to select 5Ghz after loading the 2.4Ghz page. My suggestion is empty your browser cache...

    SSID password changes itself.

The exact same thing happens with Protected Management Frames setting, it shows wrong setting from another band while switching. Emptying cache & refresh is a temporary fix, so I made a habit of flushing cache via keyboard shortcut and reloading the page before changing&saving anything on...

    Tutorial Optimized settings for XT12 / XT8

I also have XT8s as standalone APs, and these settings apply both models, as the title of this post suggests.

    Tutorial Optimized settings for XT12 / XT8

I know the less you change the better it will be, and I read tons of your posts. Thanks for all the info. The most important thing for me was disabling both beamforming settings. That was creating huge latency spikes every 5-10 seconds on 2.4 and some on 5 Ghz. Forcing ofdm on 2.4 Ghz and...

    Tutorial Optimized settings for XT12 / XT8

Couple more things, if you're using Philips Hue or other Zigbee devices, check the freq chart and change the channels; https://haade.fr/en/blog/interference-zigbee-wifi-2-4ghz-to-know If you're using eufy cameras, they kill the 2.4 connections. I also have an LG speaker system that's...

    Tutorial Optimized settings for XT12 / XT8

I've been using two XT12s and one XT8 with old firmware as AP, until I decided to move from Edgerouter to Opnsense, and add multiple VLANs via latest firmware. I spent days messing around settings, noticed I had horrible 2.4Ghz performance, clients were jumping around nodes, nodes were...

    Guest Network Pro and Binding

Hello, I've been using 2x XT12 and one XT8 in AP mode (with edgerouter X) on a two story home for a while, with old firmware, no problems whatsoever. Than my ISP started offering 1G internet, and I decided to upgrade to new opnsense device, and also updated asus firmware. The new Guest Network...

Release ASUS ZenWiFi XT8 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.46061 (2022/01/14)

If you select a channel on 5ghz-2, nodes connect to main router with 2.4ghz (yellow/weak light) and wait for ~10mins dfs scan to be able to select 160mhz bw. If you leave it auto, they wait 1-2mins and use 80 Mhz. If it repeats, check your logs for radar events, and check the last section of...

Release ASUS ZenWiFi XT8 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.46061 (2022/01/14)

I've been trying to stabilize this version. Group Key Rotation Interval (only on backhaul) is indeed the problem, and setting it to zero fixes "node/internet disconnects." But, I still got random disconnects. I just noticed that the setting is not propagated to nodes -- GUI only changes main...
