Yes - it is frustrating - I noticed the same thing on my 2.4 devices (wemo, echos) where they were laggy in getting detected or in the case of the echo, stuttering (with any version merlin or asus of firmware later than 3341)
So is that the latest version of firmware for the ECB6200? Is there a fix list? I've got ecb_flashimage_2_11_1_10_6200_1 and while it is running well, I'm all for having the latest security/stability/speed with my network devices :)
Great for me as well. I had the weird initial GUI lag, but it seemed to clear itself within an hour or so.
No M flags anywere on my clients...maybe one day I'll mu-MIMO clients to really see what that would do for me in my environment :)
Sorry, I should have been more clear - I didn't mean reboot, but actually get the router back to the default factory settings (in the administration menu, Advanced Settings > Administration > Restore/Save/Upload Setting tab and then selecting Restore, click OK).
Had the same issue trying RMerlin's latest as well as Asus's release. Ultimately I had to reset the switch and then the upgrade of firmware worked like a charm.
Try resetting the router to defaults. I had this happen on my AC68U initially after the upgrade from the last AsusWRT version and then after resetting the router, all is well and I have both bands back again.
DLNA audio streaming works fine (all I've tested to this point). It may be placebo for me with a fresh firmware update, but the performance/responsiveness is a little bit better with 38_1.
I don't believe the RT-16 is AC capable. I've personally had great success with this Linksys WUMC710 as a bridge. There's a great deal on it at the moment:

As far a repeaters go...you may be better off finding AC-66U or...
I have AC clients (Cisco WUMC710 bridge, Intel AC7260 laptop clients, Galaxy Note 3) connecting at 1170mbps, 702mbps and 433mbps but more importantly the performance with basic transfers over the LAN with multiple ISO transfers is very strong and stable. I have a couple of 2.4ghz & 5.8ghz N...
It's less than 24 hours, but I have to admit the performance for me on this 374_433 is noticeably faster in terms GUI performance as well local LAN transfer (WIFI to LAN and vice versa). So far so good! Appreciate all the hardwork done by the ASUS folks and RMerlin!
upgraded from .339 to alpha3 and here are my observations in the last hour:
-for whatever reason, my USB disk is no longer detectable (regardless of what setting USB 3.0 interference is on)
-performance on wifi seems quicker (no quantifiable benchmarks, but local network transfers are faster)
