Plug Your Wi-Fi Holes With A Powerline Network

I'm rather disappointed that TrendNet doesn't have a system whereby their router would be Powerline enabled without additional accessories, and that the PowerLine adapters with Wi-Fi built-in could basically construct a Wi-Fi mesh on their own, where the Powerline Wi-Fi adapters would be...

Amped Wireless Announces Multi-AP Home Wi-Fi System

Yeah, quite interesting that none of these have built-in HomePlug / power line support built-in...

    Backup Strategy - please critique

Quite interesting that there would be a new posting to this thread a day after reading this Slashdot thread: https://hardware.slashdot.org/story/16/08/28/2016242/ask-slashdot-whats-the-best-way-to-backup-large-amounts-of-personal-data

Will evaluating multicast performance be a part of your test suite? (I hope so...)

New Router Test Processes Are Coming

Although it may be messy, I'd rather see the warts and corns tested and reported, if possible. Whether they have any weight in the assessment calculations is a separate question. But IMHO leaving out IPv6 testing entirely simply helps keep the problems invisible.

    Backup Strategy - please critique

Your comments gave me pause. I hadn't considered that the extra wear the rebuilds were imposing on the drives. And I now believe I should be glad that the RAID 1 enclosure will soft-disconnect from its host when a tray is removed. That forced me to manually unmount the RAID-1 volume or shut...

Article Discussion: How Many SSIDs Is Too Many?

I would like to suggest, as the "SNB Answer Guy: How Many SSIDs Is Too Many?" article advocates, that all simultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi routers' default network configurations have a single SSID. To be clear: I am in no way trying to suggest that a single SSID should be used in all cases...

    Backup Strategy - please critique

For maybe 10 years I've been using a 2 tray RAID 1 enclosure connected to, and shared out by, an older Mac I invariably have lying around (currently a 2009 Mac mini), which means it could be a Time Machine target. I have 3 trays, and 3 matching drives. Once a week, I unmount the RAID 1 volume...

Stumped on Guest network with Mac

Have you tried running Apple's Network Diagnostics tool (/System/Library/CoreServices/Network Diagnostics.app)? Do you have any other Macs with which you can try to connect to this network? Apple's Wireless Diagnostic (/System/Library/CoreServices/Applications/Wireless Diagnostics.app) may...
