Replacing RT-AC3100 with RT-BE88U for ESP based IOT Network

@Ripshod. glad you are having success. I had my wifi config set with the same settings you mentioned. Are your devices flashed with Tasmota FW ? Are they ESP8266 or ESP32 devices? For now, I went ahead and returned the BE88U router. Will look in to upgrading again in a year or so.

Replacing RT-AC3100 with RT-BE88U for ESP based IOT Network

@Tech9, thank you for taking the time to read my post and providing solid advice. As bad as I wanted the new router to work for me, all the signs were telling me my devices were just not a good fit for it.

Replacing RT-AC3100 with RT-BE88U for ESP based IOT Network

Long time user of Asus Routers/Merlin Firmware. Currently using RT-AC3100 flashed with latest (and EOL) version of Merlin. My Wifi needs are simple, 2 phones, 4 Tablets, 2 Alexa devices, and 40+ ESP based IOT devices flashed with Tasmota firmware. PC's and Streaming Devices are all connected...

    ASUS RT-BE88U - WiFi 2.4GHz drop with "Deauth_ind Unspecified reason (1), rssi:0"

Update on my BE88U performance. After moving my IOT devices to main 2.4 network and disabling the Guest IOT - while things did look promising at the beginning, by the end of the day I had several IOT devices drop out and could not reconnect. I had to reboot the router for them to come back...

    Frustration with RT-BE88U and SmartDevices

Tossing my hat in the ring. Trying to upgrade from a AC3100 to BE88U with several ESP based IOT devices on guest network. Running Merlin 3006_102.3 and did a full reset/reboot 3 times and config per an older L&LD Instruction renaming all SSID's. Got both 2.4 main and 2.4 guest on WPA2...

    YazFi YazFi v4.x - continued

Currently running Asus AC3100 w/Merlin 386.14_2. I have "many" ESP based IOT devices connecting to a Guest network that DOES HAVE access to Intranet allowed so they can push data and receive commands via local MQTT Broker on Raspberry Pi connected via ethernet. All devices on my router are on...

    Time to replace my RT-AC88U

I currently have most of my IOT devices on the Guest Network on my AC3100, but still give Guest Network access to local intranet. Not sure if that "isolates" them from the internet or not. The AX88U-Pro has been out for a while. I just don't want to upgrade now and then discover 6 months (or...

    Time to replace my RT-AC88U

Rather than start a new thread, I too am considering replacing my RT-AC3100 with a RT-AX88U-PRO. Wifi 6 or 7 devices are not even on my radar at this point, so that is not driving the need for replacement. My current setup does include "several" IOT devices that I keep reading should be placed...

Custom DDNS vs Drop Down List for Same Provider

@lukehjo, thanks for the reply. As you can tell, this whole SSL/TLS key and cert thing is confusing to me, but that is not a Merlin issue. I guess the "Free Trial" text still displaying after I entered my credentials for the FREEDDNS.AFRAID.ORG dropdown made me think I had gone down the wrong...

Custom DDNS vs Drop Down List for Same Provider

Please excuse if some of my terminology is incorrect. Have been using Merlin on AC3100 for several years, with DDNS enabled selecting "Custom", providing the "dnns-start" script as directed and using Crontab for periodic updates (registered my domain at Afraid.org). Been working as needed for...

Setting up 2 mac addresses to same IP in dnsmasq.conf.add

Your doubt that my device had more than one MAC address got me looking at my Android phone a bit closer. There is a Privacy setting that randomizes the MAC address rather than link up with the device's physical MAC address. So I was in error, there is just one MAC, but the phone kept changing...

Setting up 2 mac addresses to same IP in dnsmasq.conf.add

Long time user of Asus routers and Merlin firmware, but just a novice.. I just started using "dnsmasq.conf.add" for IP address manual assignment and so far so good. In the case of phones and tablets that have dual wifi (2.4 and 5) capabilities, they show to have a separate MAC address for each...

Asus RT-AC68U 386.2_6 low on free nvram

Regarding moving the reserved IP's to /jffs/configs/dnsmasq.conf.add, is there still a limit of 64 maximum entrys ?
