Agree with @sfx2000 , unless the taking over party knows about Merlin, better to stick back as stock especially for family members. We know them better than anyone else, stock will be the safest for them. We should not let them learn running without them learn walking.

Actually mine is TUF-AX3000 not RT-AX3000, different model. TUF-AX3000 is supported by Gnuton based on Merlin FW. Thank you.

I'm happy to use 388.8_2 without the ROG. Started with 388.8 without ROG and never look back to ROG.

For my confirmation, you're using 3004.388.7_1-gnuton1 FW for upgrade right? Merlin FW does not directly support TUF-AX5400 https://github.com/gnuton/asuswrt-merlin.ng/releases/tag/3004.388.7_1-gnuton1

And to be honest, problems from GT-AX6000 may not be replicated. Some may encounter, some may not. It depends on how far the administrator had customized their build with other add-on available in this forum. For me, the FW from ROG to non-ROG didn't cause me much issue just have to forget about...

It is pointless to argue, the fact is more and more devices are having MAC randomization (e.g. android tablets, IPads) unless you choose to disable it. Otherwise blocking all 'unknown' MAC is redundant because it could be the same device using a different MAC and every randomized MAC will need...

I setup AX56U and TUF-AX3000 both nodes with wifi AiMesh on merlin FW. However, it took me a while to be successful and lots of frustration 😅 ... The common errors I encountered were always no node found on wifi network even though they were placed right next to the router without cable. Sorry...

I don't have issue so far running samba on AiMesh, mine is Mesh on Wifi to main router. Samba on LAN to AiMesh node.

I'm still running my AX56U as Mesh, recent update to 388.7 also no issue. As long as usable as Mesh or AP, I'll still keep it till it "self-expired" 🤭

Only problem comes from DDNS Let's Encrypt SSL cert issuance. It went from Issued to Unknown, anyway resolved using same method --> switch to Auto then back to Let's Encrypt.

I guess this will be the final FW update for my AX56U which is already listed in Asus EOL...
