Thanks -- that worked for me too!

Solved OpenVPN not working with UDP anymore; TCP works

OK, I did some more experimenting and some more reading and I've learned some more. Based on what I have read, the VPN overhead is 28 bytes on an IPV4 network and 48 bytes for an IPV6 network. I just ran an experiment and setting "mssfix 1452" works, but "mssfix 1453" doesn't. MTU is set to...

Solved OpenVPN not working with UDP anymore; TCP works

Updated about 30 mins after my initial post. Updated 9/6/2023. Successful mssfix size depends on the network. OK, I've learned some more and I have UDP working again. Adding the directive "mssfix 1400" in the client ".ovpn" file solves the problem. On some networks you can increase it to...

Solved OpenVPN not working with UDP anymore; TCP works

That was a good question, but it's not the issue. I get about 800 down and 24 up. Your question caused me to wonder about QOS, but disabling QOS did not solve the problem either. Part of me says I should just be happy now that I have it working again by using TCP. The other part of me says...

Solved OpenVPN not working with UDP anymore; TCP works

Thank you for replying. On my phone, connected via cellular network. 4G LTE connection. Same problem when using guest wifi at various locations. Strange is that it used to work and that now it only works with that one IP camera.

Solved OpenVPN not working with UDP anymore; TCP works

Update: See post #7, below, for the solution. After about a year of successfully using the OpenVPN Server on my Asus Merlin RT-AX86U router with both my OpenVPN Windows and Android clients, it suddenly became very unreliable / barely working. To be more specific: One out of the 4 IP cameras on...

    AImesh the same old mess?

I didn't have the feeling that you were making light of anything I said and your request for clarification was totally reasonable. I didn't mean for my post to convey any sense of negative reaction to your question. Cheers. Marc

    AImesh the same old mess?

\ The AC56 is not on "mesh duty". It's WiFi is turned off and it is functioning strictly as a router. It is running Merlin firmware 380.63_2. The two TM-AC1900s are running firmware "3.0.0.4.384_20308". The "parent" is configured as an "AIMESH router in AP mode". The node is configured as an...

    AImesh the same old mess?

I am using AIMESH mode on two converted TM-AC1900s, wired backhaul. Both are access points as I use an old AC56U with WiFi shut off as my router. I have found that the handoff is pretty seamless. I tested by doing a video call on my laptop with a colleague. I kept talking while walking across...

Can't disable band 1 channels when using AIMESH

I am using AIMESH with ethernet backhaul. Devices are TM-AC1900s converted into RT-AC68Us. Firmware is the latest available as of 2/16/2018 on both devices: 3.0.0.4.384_20308-gead790e I am unable to disable band 1 channels. I want to do this because the RT-AC68U's transmit at lower power...

[TM-AC1900 (RT-AC68U)] - Bricked while flashing from Tomato to Merlin

@that1geek -- thank you so much for the details post -- I had the exact same symptoms you described and this un-bricked my router on the first attempt. Fantastic instructions and great photos! For the record, I lost 2 tabs :-). Marc

    TM-AC1900 (RT-ac68U) 5ghz transmit power on channels 36->48

I've read through a bunch of threads about adjusting transmit power but have not yet found an answer to my question. Background: I have no interest in doing anything that violates FCC regulations. Somewhere in the 2014 / 2015 timeframe the FCC in the US updated the regulations to allow...

[Question] Asuswrt-Merlin - "Auto select channel including band1 channels" Ignored

Hi Paul, the RT-AC88 is a much newer model and was certainly certified with the higher transmit power on the band 1 channels. That, in conjunction with your point about lower frequencies having better penetration and distance, means that the lower frequencies will do much better for you. I...

[Question] Asuswrt-Merlin - "Auto select channel including band1 channels" Ignored

Hi Paul, I've experimented with the lower channels for that reason, but I consistently show it delivering a slightly lower power signal. In 2014 the FCC change the regulations and allowed band 1 to transmit at a higher power. I wonder if my router still complies with the older reguation. What...
