    Original Moto X can't connect to 5.0 on RT-AC86U

An excellent idea. Unfortunately it didn't help. That's a very old phone that hasn't received a patch in a long time. Thankfully it does work on the 2.4. Having said that, the 5.0 range on this router is remarkable.

    Original Moto X can't connect to 5.0 on RT-AC86U

FWIW, I upped the log level to 7 to see if I could find anything unusual. With both a successful (2.4) and unsuccessful (5.0) connection to the router, it adds the device's MAC address to monitor list. The difference is that with a successful connection you can see the DHCP request and...

    Original Moto X can't connect to 5.0 on RT-AC86U

Hi all, I just bought an RT-AC86U as a replacement/upgrade from my RT-N66U. So far I'm very pleased with it. 5.0 range is significantly better. The only problem I've had is that my wife's original Moto X will not connect to the 5.0. It will connect to the 2.4 just fine. It is supposed to...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

And you are absolutely right, of course. I haven't really used any of the newer features of the later firmwares. It's mainly been a security concern for me. I've been toying with the idea of getting a RT-AC86U anyway and then using my N66 as an access point. I've got a number of AC devices now...

Thanks for the info, John. Is Asus stopping support as well?

Where did you see this? I didn't realize the N66U had been EOL'd. I assume this means that eventually (soon) John will have to drop support in the fork too? Seems I might need to be in the market for a new router.

    Same here. Downloaded fine.

Not significantly, if at all, in my personal testing.

I haven't checked Merlin's builds in a long time. I know that when Asus switched SDKs, range on my N66U plummeted significantly. That's when I started using John's fork.

John's link is wrong. It takes you to the previous alpha. If you follow that link, click TestBuilds at the top, then click on Update-29A9 and proceed from there.

Further testing seems indicate that those measurements are within the noise. I lay in bed and surfed for a bit and then watched Sling TV for about 20 minutes (the sacrifices I must make) and everything seemed fine. More testing is required, but so far so good.

Yep, connection is not a problem. The proof will be in the proverbial pudding when I surf in bed or watch something on my Roku stick. I appreciate all your hard work on this, John. I don't express it enough. Your work has extended the useful life of my RT-N66U substantially.

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

I just updated my RT-N66U. I tested in one of the more difficult-to-reach parts of my house (the master bedroom) which your previous firmware allowed me to reach just fine. I did some quick measurements with Wifi Analyzer. It reported a 1-2 dBm signal loss with the alpha firmware. That may very...

    Latest Merlin RT-N66U Range

Actually, this is my personal home network. Like Michael, I have a Brother printer, a couple of Roku, a "smart" Vizio TV, a PS3 and PS4, and some older Android devices. With the printer, about the worst thing that would happen would be someone griefing me by sending a bunch of garbage data to...

Thanks for the info. Hopefully this weekend I'll give the alpha a spin.
