[TM-AC1900] Unable to change Router Login Name while in AP Mode?

Background -- preparing to replace my RT-AC68R router with a dedicated pfSense router plus a couple AC68's in the new AiMesh mode. I picked up a TM-AC1900 to use as my second AC68, reflashed it to ASUS-WRT, then used the CFE as recommended by goggles99 in the AiMesh thread, then installed the...

    [RT-N66U] - 5Ghz drops

Just to test, try sticking a fan behind it to see if the problem is related to overheating.

[Official Beta] AiMesh beta firmware for RT-AC68U/RT-AC86U/RT-AC5300/RT-AC88U

Excellent, that's great to hear. I saw that it was a possibility in early alpha but wasn't sure if it had made the cut. As an aside, I'd like to extend my thanks for ASUS's involvement with the enthusiast market -- definitely puts the company #1 for me when considering purchases.

[Official Beta] AiMesh beta firmware for RT-AC68U/RT-AC86U/RT-AC5300/RT-AC88U

I haven't seen this answered anywhere yet -- can AiMesh be enabled with the primary device in AP mode? I would like to set this up with a pfSense router feeding two AC68R's operating as access points. Everything I have seen regarding AiMesh refers to setting up the "primary router" and then the...

Looking for new desktop WiFi card (PCI)

The TP-Link card I linked to does not include any remote antennas, but I'm sure you could rig something up. But keep in mind that any length of cable will cause a certain amount of signal drop. One of my computers is "sideways" to the router, but the other one faces the router, from 3 rooms away...

    Asus RT-AC66U FAN MOD help

Or one better -- Get any decent 1A USB charger and plug the USB fan into that on the nearest power strip. Extra cooling and no additional strain/heat on the router.

Looking for new desktop WiFi card (PCI)

I've had excellent results with this TP-Link card: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007GMPZ0A/?tag=snbforums-20 I've got 2 of them running in a Win10 desktop (home brew) and a Win7 HTPC (HP SFF). Stable, fast, and reliable.

Laptops intermittently failing pings to router

Could be possible. Network equipment is all on a power strip but I couldn't tell you what the surge protection is (if any). Plan is to bring a UPS home from work (we cycle them out on a schedule and donate them, boss said I could take one) and put all the network equipment on that.

Laptops intermittently failing pings to router

I guess I'm going to save the heatsink and toss the rest. I can't think of anything particularly useful to do with the RT-N66U in its current state. It had a good run.

    Asus RT-AC68R $74.99 @ walmart B&M only ymmv

Huh, interesting. Brickseek shows 1 or fewer of both the 68R and 56R at my store, but I could only find the 68R.

    Asus RT-AC68R $74.99 @ walmart B&M only ymmv

Never call the store. Check brickseek, if it shows any possible inventory on-hand, then go check it out in person. Item ID: 37701347 http://brickseek.com/walmart-inventory-checker EDIT: Also check for the RT-AC56R for $19, Item ID: 37701348

Laptops intermittently failing pings to router

Definitely not dust. I don't know what it is. The best comparison I could make is something like a dried layer of CA glue -- it's shiny but hardened, not goopy or sticky. And then there's that splash of color along the right edge of it. Most of the joints look okay, but the worst of them are...
